What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Targeted Corridor Revitalization Management Program
Germantown United CDC assists in the implementation of the City of Philadelphia’s Targeted Corridor Revitalization Management Program by providing assistance, advice and support services to microenterprises and those looking to form microenterprises in this targeted low- and moderate-income area. We engage directly with merchants and commercial property owners, and facilitate local access to supportive business programs. Examples include: support navigating city services, licenses, permits; helping businesses access capital; financial and technical assistance; grant and loan referrals; business planning; etc. Due to the current environment, assisting businesses with COVID-19 mitigation strategies, re-openings, and the application process for relief packages and other grant/financing resources has been an immediate priority. In addition to direct services and door-to-door merchant outreach and site visits, we also monitor and encourage compliance with established regulations and report issues to relevant city agencies as needed.
Neighborhood Advisory Committee Program (Resident Services)
As a Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) organization, we work in partnership with the Philadelphia Department of Housing and Community Economic Development to provide services to Germantown residents and navigate City programs aimed at enhancing quality of life.
In our work with Germantown residents, we conduct extensive direct outreach and education to residents at risk of mortgage and real estate tax foreclosure or delinquency. Every month, we review a list of local property addresses that are facing this issue. Our staff makes site-visits to each home and follows up with cold calls, the purpose being to make contact and offer available assistance. Our goal is to keep residents in their homes and avoid displacement.
GUCDC also assists residents with: Mortgage and Real Estate Tax Foreclosure; Basic Systems Repair Program; Rental Assistance; Adaptive Modifications Program; Rent and Property Tax Rebates; First-time Homebuyer Assistance; Emergency Housing Information; Weatherization and Energy Assistance; Reporting Vacant Lots and Unsafe Buildings; Eviction Prevention Program; Property Tax Relief Programs; Purchasing Vacant Properties/Lots.
GUCDC’s resident services are not limited to the above list. We will troubleshoot other issues. We also work with Block Captains, RCO’s (Registered Community Organizations), and neighborhood stakeholders to support and achieve their goals. Supporting Germantown residents is a core part of our mission.

- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
