Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
First, provide a place for abandoned, abused, neglected and retired equines in this area. Second, educate the residents of our very rural area as to what horse abuse and neglect is and how to report it.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
There are no shortage of equines that are brought to us or that we go out and seize, so our first goal is accomplished, automatically. Our second goal involves working with people that animal control or veterinarians have identified that need education and also, providing education to middle school, high school and college students about equine abuse.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The Sanctuary has shelter and pasture to house a number of equines, although we generally stay pretty full (turn over allowed by adoptions). We get many calls from animal professionals and students/teachers which provide ample opportunity for education.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have accomplished establishing a place for these equines to go, which didn't exist before. We have raised awareness of the equine abuse issue through the means mentioned above. We have not sufficiently changed the culture of the area and, as mentioned above, that will take quite a while.
