Mission

Hardeman Adoptable Animals (HAA) is a volunteer-based organization that saves dogs from the Hardeman County Animal Control kill facility in Bolivar, TN. The organization places these rescued dogs in a safe shelter that is located in the county landfill, but operated by the HAA volunteers. Upon arrival at the shelter, the dogs are evaluated, cared for by a veterinarian if necessary, and placed on the list of available/adoptable dogs. All dogs taken in are strays, owner surrenders or breeder throw aways. HAA protects the dogs from euthanasia and adopts them out to appropriate homes or delivers them to rescue groups who can place them in a forever home.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Our main focus is taking care of the dogs but our biggest need is to get the shelter out of the landfill. We need a shelter that was actually constructed to be a shelter and not just a tire shed.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Spay/Neuter

Residents of Hardeman Co. can commit to volunteering 20 hours at the shelter and afterwards can have their pet spayed or neutered.

All of our dogs are spayed or neutered before they are adopted out or rescued. If the pup is too young, we offer a $100 reimbursement after proof is given that the pup was spayed or neutered.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Reduce the number of strays, owner surrenders and neglected dogs.

Raising awareness on the importance of spaying/neutering, how to properly care for your pet and prevent diseases like heart worms.

We have adoption days at Tractor Supply and attend larger scaled events when possible to showcase our dogs and have brochures on different aspects of caring for pets.

The spay neuter program has been successfully implemented over the past 3 years. We have saved over 4000 dogs in the past 6 years.
