Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Develop our Story including the many levels of history within the Byway corridor, reaching out to guest speakers and story tellers, training a cadre of volunteers to accomplish our goals, enhancing the Byway experience for local residents as well as our visitors, develop and host a schedule of events to highlight the Byway’s assets and raise funds, and strengthening the organization through retention and growth of our membership.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We have a signature athletic event, the Mohawk Towpath Byway Duathlon held the second Sunday morning in October. We also partner will other organizations within the Byway corridor who also host events related to the Byway story including Canal Festivals that highlight the waterway west, Farm Fest that explores our agricultural heritage, Canal Clean Sweep to encourage spring cleanup, local festivals that highlight our Byway communities history and recreational resources.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have developed a time table to organizing and hosting the Duathlon.
We have developed partnerships with the ECNHC, Adirondack Sports & Fitness, Audubon Society of the Capital Region, several historical organizations, and organizers of local festivals.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We maintain a website and Facebook page to keep our membership and the public engaged. We have grown our membership and maintain email and conventional addresses and phone numbers.
We have partnered with other organizations including local history organizations, local Audubon Society, the Erie Canalway National heritage Corridor, and several businesses. We have coordinated with schedules, partnered with, and with several business and professional organizations along the Byway corridor. We have recognized several businesses for their contribution to our goal of preserving our heritage, communicating the Byway's stories, and contributing to the visitor experience.
