What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Annie's House Demonstration Site
Telling people is simply not good enough. Showing the way forward is absolutely essential to allowing communities to develop the vision of a sustainable future. As a result, Annie’s House has been developed to demonstrate a variety of affordable sustainable practices including food production, preservation and preparation, energy conservation and production, and alternative transportation.
Coordinator Program
The coordinator is a full-time rotating development position that lives in Annie’s House and works with our various partners to serve as community coordinator/advocate, lead community programs, and demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of living more simply and sustainably while assisting others to do the same. The coordinator develops relationships with residents, works to understand community needs and then connects residents and community organizations to other nonprofits and partners that can assist in meeting those needs. Through this work and our formalized development program, the coordinator develops the skills and confidence necessary to leave the program and go out to serve as a leader within the community.
Annie’s House Apprentice Program
Typically pulled from the local community, our apprentices are paid part-time development positions that support the coordinator in developing the community through sustainable practices while they are developed through Sustaining Way’s programs.
Annie’s House Intern Program
Our interns are paid part-time development positions that support the coordinator and apprentice in developing the community through sustainable practices.
Steward Education Program
The Steward Education Program provides free sustainability and personal development training for children and youth (K-12) participating in partner programs. Sustaining Way and its partners tailor all curricula, educational activities and field trips to the age group and topic of interest.
Steward Fellowship Program
The Steward Fellows Program is a paid opportunity to develop the community and prepare for future careers. It provides high school age youth with workforce development through training and job opportunities at our demonstration site, Annie’s House, and with our partner organizations.
