Notes from the nonprofit

Born 2 Be is a therapeutic riding and carriage driving program dedicated to providing the opportunity for individuals to become all they were Born 2 Be through a partnership with the horse. We are located in Sanger, TX and accessible from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Born 2 Be is a PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) Premier Accredited Center and all our instructors are PATH certified in riding, driving or both. We serve individuals with physical, educational, intellectual & emotional disabilities in a hopeful, helpful and healthy environment. Each lesson is a team effort of people and horses working together to accomplish a common goal. Our participants range in age from 4 yrs to senior adults. By design, Born 2 Be is a small, family oriented center. We are grateful for our dedicated volunteers, professional staff, riders who amaze us all and our incredible herd of therapy horses. Thanks to all who make a difference one hoofbeat at a time.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Therapeutic horsemanship

The horse provides a 3-dimensional movement that mimics human walking gait - movement that is difficult to duplicate in a clinical setting. Therapeutic riding improves sequencing abilities, balance, posture, muscle tone, self-esteem, motor skills, and social interaction. Disabilities served may include autism, paraplegia, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, intellectual disability, traumatic brain injury, attention deficit disorder, developmental disability, hearing and visually impaired, among others.

Population(s) Served

Therapeutic driving is unique in that it offers people who cannot ride, or choose not to ride, the opportunity to participate in an equine activity. Driving provides all the benefits of riding but also utilies, to a greater degree, hand/eye coordinatoin and spatial awareness.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The Board of Directors goals are to increase the size of the board, see an increase in student numbers and established a scholarship program for students who cannot afford services. Student goals: every student has individually set goals, both long term and short term. Goals may include, but not limited to, improvement in areas such as balance, posture, muscle tone, motor skills, social interaction, self-esteem and horsemanship skills.
2020 goal is to increase student numbers, increase the size of the BOD, increase event income and lease a facility.

The Board is actively working to increase the size of the board and especially looking for local community leaders to serve. The Born 2 Be BOD are establishing successful fundraising events (minimum of two per year) along with an annual direct mail campaign. The board, along with the Executive Director, are working toward achieving successful grant submissions in the year 2020.
Continue to grow attendance and profit on major fundraising dinner and North Texas Giving Day. Lease a facility for Born 2 Be.

Born 2 Be TEC is staffed by individuals who have over 25 years of experience in the equine assisted therapy field including serving on PATH committees and as task force members. Instructors are PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, Int'l) certified in riding, carriage driving or both. The majority of the BOD is made up of individuals extremely familiar with equine assisted therapies and activities. One of the Born 2 Be instructors has a solid background in fundraising/grant writing and is currently working for Born 2 Be in both areas.
A successful North Texas Giving Day campaign provided funds to put into a successful event.

The board increased member numbers this year and have several prospects for 2018-2019. The focus is on adding local community and business leaders to serve. The Born 2 Be BOD are establishing successful fundraising events (minimum of two per year) along with a repeat of a successful annual direct mail campaign.
Born 2 Be has received several grants and have more submitted.
Leased property has been acquired.
Student numbers increased by almost 30%. Student progress notes and graphs are completed at least twice a year along with weekly progress notes.
The North Texas Giving Day final numbers increased from the previous year.
