Mission

At the Boys and Girls Club of Rosebud, we truly believe at our youth are sacred. That is why, in everything we do, we seek to enable our young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We serve youth on the Rosebud Reservation. We operate three centers located in Mission, Parmelee, and Rosebud, SD. At these centers, we operate a daily program with emphasis on academic success, healthy lifestyles, and mentoring. We believe in expanding the vision of our youth through enrichment activities such as kayaking, archery, traditional plant gathering, camping trips, biking, hiking, lacrosse, traditional art, and agricultural education. We are open 4-8 M-F during the school year and 10-5, M-Th during the summer.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The glue that holds all of our programs together is the strong relationship we seek to cultivate between our staff and our youth. Mentoring is a strong focus, as we look to retain our current members all the way through high school graduation.

Our strategy focuses on three key areas - academic success, good character, and healthy lifestyles - within the overall focus of forming strong mentoring relationships. In this way we provide for the two biggest underlying risk factors facing our youth - lack of positive role models (especially from their own community) and lack of healthy outlets (especially during the summer months). We provide leagues in basketball, baseball, and lacrosse, along with full summer and after school programs. Everything is free of charge to the youth.

The Boys and Girls Club of Rosebud is currently the only after school program serving our reservation. Rather than one time events, we choose to focus our resources on providing consistency for our youth. We are the only center based, mentoring focused youth program on our reservation.

We work to intentionally build our staff, our board, and our programming, with an eye toward sustainable growth. We continue to build partnerships in our communities in order to expand our capability for impact.

Everyone loves a comeback story. Since establishment in December 2004, our Club has had its share of struggles. Since 2014, we have taken a new direction. We have established our focus and priority outcomes and recruited passionate, qualified, and highly committed staff to make these goals a reality for our kids. We have renovated each of our centers, notably constructing two rock climbing walls in Rosebud, renovating the old bowling alley in Mission and putting up the town's first-ever skate park. Last summer, we filled a big gap in our area by launching three successful youth sports leagues. We have been intentional in building our board of directors. In order to ensure excellent in financial management, we hired an independent CPA in November 2014. This firm now works with our executive director to handle 100% of our accounting functions. The stage is set for sustainable success in serving our kids.

Moving forward, we seek to raise our average daily attendance to 200 youth per day. This will require the acquisition of more space and an accompanying growth in operational dollars.
