COMMUNITY CATS COALITION
Saving them all, one colony at a time!
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Due to the cost of high cost of spay/neuter here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, makes it impossible for the many low/fixed income residents of this county to be able to afford having their pet cats fixed, not to mention the stray cats they are caring for. We offer programs that effectively help those in need. By being able to offer these residents low or even free spay/neuter drastically reduces the overpopulation of cats & encourages those owners to keep their cats as spay/neutering eliminates many behavioral problems. Offering our trap/neuter/return program effectively reduces more cats/kittens from entering our already overcrowded shelter system, thus freeing up space for those cats that are being surrendered. (We must keep our ferals out of the shelter system) Spay/neutering of all stray/feral cats greatly reduces their roaming for mates, aggression, fighting over food & territory. Fixing these cats reduces their hormonal behavior & allows them to live a healthy life.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Wait til 8....
Caring for neonates and kittens. Providing life saving care for the littlest kittens. Educating residents who call concerning newborns & orphans. We provide education, KMR, heating pads, crates, worming med's, distemper when old enough, nursing kits. By having the resident who calls keep & care for the kittens til they reach 8 weeks of age, frees up space for other calls we receive for sick and injured cats.
Adoption Program
Providing a venue for all adoptable healthy cats. People who call us regarding finding new homes for either their own pet cats or those they are caring for. Each cat must undergo a vigorous protocol before being placed at our venue. Fully vetted, combo tested, first & second distempers, wormed, and spayed/neutered.
Trap/Neuter/Return Program
Offering TNR for all who are caring for stray, feral and abandoned cats. We offer trapping/transporting/recovery/return for the low cost of $35.00.
Hospice Program
For those cats who need hospice care. We provide a loving, warm and safe environment for those cats who are nearing the end of their lives.
Low Cost Spay/Neuter Program
We offer low cost spay/neuter services. We will trap, transport, fix, vaccinate and return your cat(s) to you. Your cat will receive a rabies shot, distemper, nail trim, ears cleaned/ ear mite treatment, worming & pain medication. If your cat(s) is feral they will have their left ear tipped. This is done while they are still in surgery & does not hurt them. It is the universal symbol that the cat is fixed and vaccinated.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Saving colonies of cats that would otherwise be reproducing out of control. Educating the public to early spay/neuter of their pet cats. Working with local vets to ask them to spread the word about our program when people just can't afford the high vet cost of fixing their pet cat. Increase financial and human resources for TNR. Increase access to spay/neuter for low income cat owners. Ensure all community cats have regular food, water, shelter and medical care. Explore other opportunities to increase cat-friendly housing. Help cat owners make informed decisions before surrendering or abandoning their cats.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
More public awareness via social media/newspapers/media. Going into schools, educating children, teachers. Presentations to Home Owners Associations, Women's Groups, Realtor Groups, vendors and merchants.
We need a high volume low cost spay/neuter clinic here on the Eastern Shore. As it is, we are currently driving 3 hours to Philadelphia to use Forgotten Cats clinic. We are seeking funding to obtain property to build our own clinic. This will allow us to help more cats.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Reaching out to others to get more volunteers. Volunteers are needed as our volunteer team is small and limited to the hands on caring and trapping of our cats.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
As our calls continue to come in for help for cats, this is our first priority. We are caring for over 350 cats as well as running our programs, writing grants, answering the phones, putting out fires. We have fixed over 5000 cats but our resources are running low.
