Mission

The CHIditarod Foundation seeks to alleviate hunger and solve the root causes of hunger through creativity, engagement and direct action. We accomplish these goals by creating unique, creative, participatory events that raise funds (i.e. The CHIditarod!), and providing grants at a grassroots level to Chicagoland-area 501(c)(3) organizations that share our hunger-fighting mission.

Notes from the nonprofit

The CHIditarod Foundation is made possible by a group of dedicated volunteers, wanted to give back and serve the local community. Being truly nonprofit, the only for of payment for board members and founders, is the pride of seeing the event CHIditasod take place, and the excitement of being able to give grants to local groups that share our mission and goals.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The CHIditarod Foundation seeks to alleviate hunger and solve the root causes of hunger through creativity, engagement and direct action. We accomplish these goals by creating unique, creative, participatory events that raise funds (like CHIditarod!), and providing grants to local 501(c)(3) organizations that share our hunger-fighting mission.

We are able to fight local hunger due to a huge amount of support provided to us by participants. We aim to motivate donations though a fun and competitive spirit that fuels people to want to give back to their community. Since the incorporation of CHIditarod, we have raised more than 100,000 pounds of food, with a +70% donation growth in recent years.

By engaging and giving back to the local community, we are able to educate youth in the community and fully engage them with a youth-focused event, KIDidatrod, which raises more awareness about hunger.

CHIditarod is capable of making a large impact on hunger, being one of the largest single day food drive events in the city of Chicago. Having a Core group of volunteer organizers with knowledge in varying fields, including technology, programming, marketing, community outreach, and a lot of passion for our cause, the CHIditarod Foundation has produced a successful event for nearly a decade.

The funds that we raise go back into the community in the form of grants, producing community gardens, sustainable food projects or educational programs for children and adults, all focused in our local Chicagoland communities.

The issue of hunger may be one that is never completed. Each year however, The CHIditarod Foundation is able to help the local community have less hungry people in our city. More than 100-thousand pounds of food donated to our mission and being able to give out over $45k in grants, we feel that our impact is ever-growing and truly changing the lives of people in Chicago.
