What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

The work of PRESENT NOW matters because domestic violence is a hidden crime happening behind closed doors and resulting in deep emotional and psychological scars to victims and their children. It is a social disease about POWER AND CONTROL. Victims and survivors who bravely flee their homes to seek a life free of abuse, turn to domestic violence shelters for help. PRESENT NOW enhances the services families receive during their stay in transitional domestic violence shelters. While shelters are focused on offering critical confidential care, job counseling, legal and medical referrals, on-site schooling for K -12 children and individual and family therapy; most agencies seek to provide supplemental personalized programs. We address this need with our Presents Program by delivering personalized present boxes directly to our Shelter Partners six times per year. The Presence of Love, Mind and Being boxes are dropped on Valentine's Day, Back to School Day and on a child's birthday.

Presents Program

The Presents Program is a volunteer-run program designed to enhance the services provided by our Shelter Partners, and assist children living in transitional domestic violence shelters heal during a time of crisis. Over 200 volunteers help stuff presents throughout the year. Families who enter crisis programs, mostly women and children, are often moved into long-term transitional housing, where they receive confidential care, job counseling, legal and medical referrals, on-site schooling for K -12 children and individual and family therapy. These families will typically live in a shelter between one year and 18 months. All women and children entering a domestic violence shelter leave their homes with no possessions. This is the driving force behind the creation of the PRESENT NOW Presents Program. In 2020, PRESENT NOW will deliver nearly 2,000 presents to 36 Shelter Partners impacting over 800 children and their families. Our Shelter Partners range from small to large agencies in California and New York. PRESENT NOW delivers presents at 36 locations with six droppings per year.

Charting impact

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?

In the US there are over 800 transitional domestic violence shelters. PRESENT NOW is currently engaged in a strategic planning process to define the organization's goals for the next three years. In 2020 PRESENT NOW will evaluate its past efforts, focus on infra-structure and capacity building and program development and expansion. During its first five years PRESENT NOW worked to bring its Presents Program to all transitional domestic violence shelters in California. Today PRESENT NOW partners with 34 shelters in California representing more than 95% of all transitional domestic violence shelters in the state of California. In 2018 the organization made significant progress in reaching this goal and established its presence in New York by adding a Shelter Partner with two locations in Brooklyn and the Bronx. In 2020, PRESENT NOW will deliver nearly 2,000 presents to 36 Shelter Partners nationwide, ranging from small to large agencies, impacting over 800 children and their families. PRESENCE OF LOVE BOX A Valentine's Day digital learning gift PRESENCE OF MIND BOX A fresh start for back to school Each child receives a brand new backpack filled with school supplies PRESENCE OF BEING BOX A personalized birthday present Each child receives a birthday present including a new book, outfit, age appropriate toy or gift, cake mix and a local restaurant gift card

PRESENT NOW mobilizes resources that enable us to accomplish our mission - to deliver joy to children living in transitional domestic violence shelters. We rely on the help of our strategic partners, donors and volunteers who share our vision. Our Shelter Partners are at the center of our program model. These organizations house our Presents Program. Additionally, we rely on the help of over 200 volunteers who help package our gifts and digitize our supplies inventory. Since our present boxes are exclusively brand new gifts, PRESENT NOW partners with corporations and brands that make mission critical in kind donations of product. The primary strategies for ensuring more children will benefit from our program is to: 1. To continue to seek Shelter Partners 2. To continue to expand our volunteer reach 3. Increase the number of in kind donations from corporate supporters 4. To continue to expand our reach to corporations

PRESENT NOW is a leader nonprofit in the human services space because we provide personalized brand new "presents" rather than bulk donations of gently used goods and specialty items, which are more common in the sector. We distribute presents free of charge to our Shelter Partners. Each present box is carefully curated to provide the maximum impact and create memorable happy moments. To date, PRESENT NOW has distributed over 6,000 presents to 36 locations. Presents Distribution Due to our high volume shipments, PRESENT NOW is able to ship our present boxes directly to Shelter Partners at a lower cost. We also form partnerships with local businesses that provide the transportation of presents to local shelters. Presents Inventory PRESENT NOW maintains a healthy inventory of products donated in-kind by corporations and individuals and has strong community partners who organize online and onsite toy and clothing drives throughout the year.

Results are measured by number of presents distributed, children and families impacted, donors and volunteers engaged, partner organizations, Shelter Partners reached. Each Shelter Partner has unique challenges and focus areas. PRESENT NOW is adept at navigating this complex environment and has been able to successfully meet its objectives with measurable outcomes. We are humbled to have received contributions from over 500 broad-based unique donors, including individuals, family foundations, corporations and institutions. PRESENT NOW is dedicated to the pursuit of best practices, actively engaging with other organizations working in the sector and participating in conferences and panels.

Since we launched in 2012, we've provided nearly 1000 children with personalized presents. We have also granted nearly half a million dollars worth of brand new products, packaging and delivery services to shelters who would not In a 2018 PRESENT NOW survey, our Shelter Partners reported that: 92% of children who received a PRESENT NOW gift felt more confident 81% of children reported feeling more positive about school 85% reported being more engaged with reading We have also had an impact in raising awareness about domestic violence and how it affects children - the silent victims.
