Mission

Friends of the Mathieson School is a U.S.-based 501 (c) (3) foundation that supports the work of the Mathieson Music School in Kolkata, India. The school’s mission is to give a happy, healthy childhood to some of India’s poorest children. The school provides housing, food, medical care, a comprehensive general education as well as training in Eastern and Western music. Our goal is to give some of Kolkata's neediest boys and girls the skills they need rise out of poverty and secure a good quality of life for themselves and and their families. Friends of the Mathieson School, Inc. is affiliated with the Mathieson Music Trust, a registered charity of the UK that is based in London.

Mathieson Music School

The Mathieson Music School strives to give deprived children a better future through education and music. It accepts needy boys and girls of all faiths and provides them with nourishing meals, clean clothing, sanitary dormitories, and a safe, supportive learning environment. They received instruction in English and Bengali in all subjects prescribed by the Indian Government curriculum, as well as instruction in both Western and Indian classical music, including instrumental lessons, singing, and traditional dancing.
