Mother's Day Serenade

The Houston Latin American Philharmonic presents its annual Mother’s Day Serenade. The concert will take place on Sunday, May 12 at 6:00 pm in the Cullen Theater of the Wortham Center. The program includes some f the beautiful songs from Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Mexico. The guest artists for this concert are Milly Quezada (Dominican Republic) and Mirla Castellano (Venezuela).

The Houston Latin Phil is the only professional orchestra in the United States created to present full programs of Latin American music exclusively. The orchestra is led by American-Venezuelan maestro Glenn Garrido.

he Houston Latin American Philharmonic Orchestra has been organized to execute activities for exclusively CHARITABLE and EDUCATIONAL purposes within the meaning of section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. These activities will include, but not be limited to, 1) To perform, commission, and record Latin American music and delivery it to all segments of our society, especially to the Latin American community; 2) To advance knowledge about Latin American culture and its peoples throughout the community, including new generations of Latin Americans; and 3) To contribute to social cohesiveness through public concerts, lectures, young artist competitions and music workshops

1) To accomplish the Latin Phil goals the organization has set three concerts in the Cullen Theater of the Wortham Center.
2) During concerts a demonstration or mini-lecture by maestro Garrido is featured
3) The three concerts per year Mother's Day Serenade, Viva Latin America, and Latin Christmas have always been sold out. Concerts are open to the public.

The Houston Latin American Philharmonic is the only full size professional orchestra in the United States created to promote Latin American music, musicians, and composers. The orchestra is led by American-Venezuelan maestro Glenn Garrido, the first Venezuelan in the history of his native country to earn a PhD in Music Education with emphasis in Conducting.
Maestro Garrido makes most of the arrangements for the orchestra, collected many original compositions from Latin American countries, and have commissioned over 50 new works for the past 7 seasons.
