KIOO PROJECT INC

Picture equality.

New York, NY   |  http://kiooproject.org/

Mission

We change gender dynamics in under resourced communities by teaching photography to girls who, in turn, teach photography to boys. Girls gain self-confidence while building leadership and presentation skills. Boys gain respect and value girls for their contributions to the community. Global gender equality is more than a “girls only" effort. It can only be achieved when both girls and boys understand the importance of living as equals.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

KIOO

We, first, teach photography to girls in underserved communities and then train them to share their new skills to their male peers. Girls gain self-confidence while building leadership and presentation skills. Boys gain respect and value girls for their contributions to the community.

After the initial in-field workshop, we host a gallery show exhibiting the students' favorite images. The entire community – students, families, school leaders, community elders – celebrate the accomplishments of our students.
