What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Binkeez for Comfort is a conscious and deliberate act of love woven into the lives of children and families during times of acute medical crisis. This is expressed through the Binkeez for Comfort blanket, but is also an experience of comfort and healing for the entire family. Children who are in the fight of their lives are placed in the hardest of medical procedures. They are in unfamiliar surroundings, away from the security of home and family, and often scared by the exposure to so many doctors and nurses. Binkeez for Comfort brings more than just a blanket to cover the child, but also provides comfort in each one of these acute medical events. The blanket becomes part of the child's healing and journey. For a few moments of childhood normalcy, the blanket becomes a superhero cape or a tent, and helps to bring back innocence. In the days and years after the fight, the blanket will always be a source of continued comfort and safety.

Children and youth (0-19 years)

There are those others whose lives we affect by our actions and, never knowing who we are or what we do, they affect our work in return. Every new fabric is named and dedicated for a child facing a life-threatening illness. The child receives the very first blanket made and the family receives a matching family-size Binkeez. The children and fighters are what drive our mission.

Binkeez for Comfort has always been, and will always be, about more than just blankets. As an organization, we practice mindfulness and vow to always remain focused and dedicated by providing thoughtful, deliberate acts of love and kindness towards others. It is for this very reason that when a child flies into the arms
of the angels, Binkeez for Comfort has deliberate and conscious acts of love for all our angel families.

With great excitement we are pleased to announce Binkeez for Comfort’s new affiliation with SpiritHoods. Together we are thrilled to embark on a new program to support the survivors of childhood cancer. A child’s journey with cancer continues even after treatment ends, and this new program will provide them love and comfort in that next chapter. Honoring these fighters with fury ferocity, SpiritHoods literally bring out the warrior spirit deeply rooted in children battling cancer.

Charting impact

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?

As parents of these children will share, they can feel alone in a time of crisis. Friends and family don't know what to say, or, afraid to face the reality “this" could happen to their child, may find it easier to look away. This leaves families of medically fragile children feeling isolated and scared for their collective future. Binkeez for Comfort gives an instant infusion and tangible act of love, simply and quietly.

For families that will forever grieve the loss of their child, the Binkeez blanket often continues with the family as part of the healing process. It travels the entire journey, from treatment to time of passing, and is many times the last tangible item to touch them. It is a reminder of their child that they can always hold close: a forever tangible memory.

Child-life specialists and social workers affiliated with Binkeez for Comfort also note that Binkeez blankets often improve outcomes because of their calming and comforting aspects. When a child feels safe and less anxious, the body is better able to fight disease.

Our strategy is simple: every action of our mission is based on the best interest of each child and family.

The Binkeez for Comfort blankets are made with the best of brand new fabrics that are lead free and hypo-allergenic. The fabric has been independently tested to pass Consumer Safety Act Protection Laws and government safety standards. Secondly, is the Binkeez experience is shared by our families, volunteers and donors.

Lastly, we work with our partner hospitals every step of the way to comply with best practices, from packaging and inserts, hospital guest basic requirements, health, patient privacy, sensitives, HIPPA and patient interactions.

Every single detail of our operations have been thoroughly thought out. This includes using only certified safe fabrics, timing of response to families, consistent methodology, and having blankets designed by medical doctors and child life specialists. We pride ourselves on our ability to touch and comfort the bravest of lives in when love and comfort are needed the most.

Our indicators are the children receiving Binkeez blankets, their families and our hospital partners, and the feedback given to our organization. In recent years, we have also benchmarked progress by the increase of hospital accreditations. Child-life specialists and social workers affiliated with Binkeez for Comfort also note that Binkeez blankets often improve outcomes because of their calming and comforting aspects. When a child feels safe and less anxious, the body is better able to fight disease.

Binkeez for Comfort has accomplished love and comfort at the most important moments in children and family's journeys. We have established trust with hospitals, partnering with institutions at which non-profits are traditionally not allowed. It is also clear that we have accomplished healing based on the feedback routinely received from families. We have accomplished comfort and safety at times of acute medical crisis. We have accomplished one blanket for one child and family at a time. In 2019 we will roll out a program for Childhood Cancer Survivorship with our new affiliation with SpiritHoods.
