Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Clover Preschool
The Clover center provides a stimulating early childhood education program where the children are learning through play and creative instruction. We have three classes: Baby: 2-3 year olds, Middle: 3-4 year olds, Upper: 5-6 year olds. The children are provided 2 healthy meals and a snack daily and we ensure immunization appointments are kept for every child. The weight and height for Clover children is monitored regularly and evaluated according to the World Health Organization standards. The curriculum follows and expands upon the National Curriculum Development Centre, Learning Framework for Early Childhood Development.
Primary School
Every child at Clover is prepared to continue their education in primary school. 21 children, nearly 100% of those eligible, have graduated from Clover and have continued their education at Eaglets Academy, a local private primary school.
Kisoboka Initiative: Nana Finance Program
The Kisoboka Initiative: Nano Finance Program launched in April 2016 is to enable the mothers of Clover children to improve their livelihoods, so that they in turn can create a better home environment for their children. Kisoboka/Nano provides interest free nano loans, payable within one year, to moms who may already have a small business, to moms interested in starting a new business, as well as to a group of moms who organize to pool their loans to build a business such as a poultry farm, greenhouses, clean water remediation, a store. We look forward to reporting on how this impactful concept, conceived of by Clover partner Aamara Biswas, economically empowers Clover families and their children.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Clover's vision is that every child living in the urban slums of Uganda will be free from the deprivations of extreme poverty and have the opportunity, regardless of their life circumstances, to survive, grow and reach their full potential. Our intended impact, as an organization of Ugandans and Americans who through strong programing and continued institutional growth, including developing effective partnerships and collaborations, will achieve a concept model of positive and sustainable development centered on education and economic empowerment in the slum community of Busega, Kampala. Thinking ahead, beyond our current start-up phase and once we've formulated an approach to scale, our potential end game will demonstrate proof of concept that will include engaging other organizations and institutions to adopt this model as an important part of the overall solution to ending poverty in the urban slums of Uganda.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To move toward developing a scalable model, Clover intends to 1) build its capacity on the ground and administratively. In Busega, we are working to construct a free standing school/center that will include early education and preschool classrooms, a community center, and possibly space for the economic empowerment projects of Clover mums, as well as accommodations for teachers/volunteers, 2) we will continue to develop strategic partnerships on the ground as well as in the US that will provide program support and enhancement as well as validation for funders, 3) we will continue to strategically build our board in both Uganda and the US with the expertise necessary to achieve our goals, and 4) we will diversify our fundraising to include grants and peer to peer in addition to annual appeal, major gifts and events.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
To achieve our identified goal of providing a pathway to quality education, we have established a positive and strong reputation in the community as an early education and preschool, have partnered with a local primary school, and have registered with the Ministry of Gender and the Kampala City Council Authority. We also are in the process of identifying property to purchase and build on and have donors who are interested in supporting this effort. In terms of building a network of partners, we currently have 5 partners with whom we currently have Memorandums of Understanding, and we are cultivating several other relationships that will support Clovers current and future programs. To continue to develop institutionally, Clover's current organizational structure, composed of a US board and and Ugandan board, is made of up professionals committed to the Clover's mission and who are in the position in their respective cities to not only recruit needed expertise for their respective boards, but to diversity Clover's current fundraising structure. Additionally, on the ground in Uganda, the programs are staffed with talented, dedicated individuals who are active members of the community, facilitating a level of trust that has proven to enable us to achieve our goals.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
In just three and half years, we have dramatically improved the opportunities for Clover children to reach their full potential. We have accomplished this for an increasing number of children annually, raising our enrollment by 50% during this time. Clover's quality education pathway for children who otherwise would not have an education prepares these children for primary school, enables these children to thrive emotionally, socially and physically after arriving at Clover severely stunted, malnourished and with morose dispositions. Organizationally, we have also developed strategic partners who will help us with critical program goals. And, we are seeking to improve the relationships in the lives of the children we serve, by providing the mums with interest-free loans and mentoring to enable them to improve their lives and those of their children.
What we have yet to accomplish, as the Clover school is currently housed at one of our board member's home, is the purchase of land and construction of a free standing center for early education, preschool and to serve in some capacity as a community resource. Additionally, it is imperative at this time in our growth to add needed expertise to our respective boards (US and Ugandan), as well as diversity our approach to fundraising. As mentioned above, we have the capability to increase our capacity and are the point, where we need to focus on our priorities in the context of Clover's mission and intended impact.
