Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Forsyth and Dawson Counties are home to over 13,000 people who are food insecure, including 9,221 school-aged children on the food assistance program. Fill Ministries seeks to address this most-basic issue of food insecurity as a relational building block to help families in need move from insufficiency to sufficiency to self-sufficiency.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Meals by Grace
With the support of 14,000+ volunteers, we serve low-income and food-insecure families of N. Georgia through four programs.
CLIENT-CHOICE PANTRY: Each week, volunteers assist families with stocking, shopping, and loading groceries. Participants shop in a grocery store environment using a points system. No desserts are provided and produce costs zero points, encouraging healthier diets.
HOME DELIVERY: Every Sunday in Forsyth County, volunteers prepare hot meals and a pack a week of food, which is then delivered right to the homes of food-insecure children qualified by their school social worker.
Once a month in Dawson County, volunteers pack a week of groceries and deliver directly to qualified families.
MOBILE FOOD PANTRY: Monthly opportunities for fresh produce and pantry stable food are provided to families participating in Head Start Programs in Forsyth and Dawson Counties.
BREAK BAGS: Bags of food fill in the “gap meals” (breakfast, lunch, snack) for every school break.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Meals by Grace goal is always to alleviate hunger and help families get beyond surviving, to self-sufficiency and thriving. In 2022 we have four specific goals to move our families closer to self-sufficiency.
Goal 1: Maintain inventory to feed hungry families. Inflation and supply-chain issues have drastically reduced the amount of food available to MbG programs at low to no cost. In 2022 we will secure additional partners and supporters to keep shelves stocked so that families can set aside one worry, where their next meal is coming from.
Goal 2: Improve data and processes to better serve families. With generous funding partners, MbG is implementing a new data system in 2022, streamlining client services and reducing program silos, managing inventory, and recruiting then engaging more donors and volunteers to benefit families.
Goal 3: Move more families along the path to sustainability. In 2022 we are adding a Family Success Specialist to determine families’ needs, provide them with more resources and help them embrace their own strengths to help them move to self-sufficiency.
Goal 4: Plan for future sustainability—both for families and the organization. Replace the 2018-2021 strategic plan with a 2022-2024 strategic plan.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Goal 1 Strategy: Reach out to more grocers, restaurants, manufacturers, and wholesalers for inkind donations. Recruit individuals and groups to hold food drives or provide more financial donations.
Goal 2 Strategy: Work closely with HubSpot to design, implement, test, and train on new processes and data management.
Goal 3 Strategy: Hire a trained professional who can phase into fulltime with our families, developing a strategic approach to engage and make a difference.
Goal 4 Strategy: Convene committees of staff and board members to address the areas of Family Care, Operations, Development, Capital Campaign, and Succession Planning.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Meals by Grace has been blessed by funders to sponsor our large efforts for 2022 and we have significant expertise to complete each goal. Our 10-year track record of maintaining and increasing services gives us confidence in our abilities to meet our goals.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Each goal has seen early progress in 2022. A signed contract with Hubspot and initial work has us on our way to finally having a reliable, highly effective system that will grow with our nonprofit. We have hired a social worker who in addition to social work training, has direct experience with MbG families. Committees have begun the work of planning how MbG can continue to best serve food insecure families. Keeping our shelves stocked for families continues to be a struggle that requires significant effort and we welcome any partners interested in helping!
