Utah Diaper Bank
Every Baby Deserves a Clean Diaper
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
There are no social safety-net programs that supply diapers nor funds to purchase diapers for those in need. There is a common belief that SNAP (food Stamps) Women Infants and Children (WIC) programs supply diapers or can be used to purchase diapers. They do not! We believe that every baby deserves a clean diaper. In pursuit of that belief, we founded the Utah Diaper Bank. We later joined the National Diaper Bank Network, which is a loose affiliation of over 200 diaper banks in the US. all attempting to fill this major gap in our social safety-net
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Diaper Distribution
In 2013, we founded The Utah Diaper Bank to supply diapers for low income children in the state of Utah. Most people believe that programs like WIC and SNAP include diapers. They do not. As an all-volunteer public charity in 2019 distributed over 500,000 diapers in Utah. We distribute diapers monthly in the greater Salt Lake area quarterly to twelve cities outside the Salt Lake area. We facilitate diapers drives or purchase diapers with funds donated to us

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We want to ensure that no family has to leave their infant in a soiled diaper for too long nor worse yet have to reuse a previously used diaper. We hope to accomplish this in Utah
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We were organized as a 501 C 3 in 2013 and began facilitating diaper drives and soliciting donations to purchase diapers. Each year as we have raised awareness in the community, we have received increasing donations and diapers. We have grown from a modest first year of distributing 13,000 diapers to a point in 2020 of distributing over 800,000 diapers statewide
We have formed partnerships with over twenty other non-profits for distribution. These partnerships allow us to grow the organization with and all-volunteer staff. These partnerships enable us to reach the entire state by piggybacking on the infrastructure of other organizations.
Three years ago, we added a county WIC program to our distribution, allowing us to put diapers in the hands of families in need. We have since added a second county WIC program and will continue to build these relationships
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are an all-volunteer organization that exists in a compassionate community. Our regular volunteers have business backgrounds that supported the establishment of the Utah Diaper Bank and the skills and experience to create a sustainable infrastructure and growth model to support our goals
We estimate that the need in Utah to be between 2-2.5 million diapers annually. We estimate that by the end of 2021 our distribution will rise to over 1 million diapers annually. We will accomplish this in eight years without any government or large donor grants
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
In seven years, we have built an organization from an annual distribution of 13,000 diapers to its current level of over 800,000. We have done this with an all-volunteer workforce and without any government funding or major grants.
We have done this by raising awareness in the community. Some of the means we have used: media interviews on all the local TV stations, multiple fund-raising partnerships with a radio station, annual diaper need awareness week with declarations by the governor and mayor, billboards, countywide diaper drives.
In addition to raising awareness, we have built a distribution network that encompasses the entire state. We have obtained donated warehouse space. We joined and actively participated in the National Diaper Bank Network.
We believe that we have secured donated space for operations starting early 2021. Having a space that volunteers and partners can come to during regular business hours will allow us to expand our volunteer base and raise awareness to an even greater level
We also plan to begin a regular application process for grants that will allow us to continue to grow both the size and scope of our diaper distribution across the state.
