What we aim to solve
Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause sunburn, skin aging, damage to eyes and skin cancer, which is the most common form of cancer in the US, yet also the most preventable. In South Florida we are exposed year round to damaging sun rays, yet many adults and children are unaware of the damage that can be done to unprotected skin and eyes.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
By advocating the prevention, early diagnosis and early treatment of malignant melanoma and other life threatening forms of skin cancer we aim to teach our surrounding communities to practice safe sun exposure for themselves and their children.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We hold 2 events per year to raise the funds we need to accomplish our goals, as well as applying for several grants. We go to every event we are asked to participate in, often providing the sunscreen and hats for those attending the event. We provide free sunscreen to community beaches and parks. We support sun safety education in schools, link state of the art care with people otherwise unable to afford it, have donated several permanent sunshade structures over playgrounds and outdoor areas, and help to provide aid to patients undergoing treatment. We are always seeking new forums for spreading awareness regarding sun safety!
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are very active long term residents of South Florida. Our organization consists of 3 families and many volunteers that have long-standing ties in our community. We have become known as the go-to organization as far as sun safety, and have spent the last 10 years building an impeccable reputation.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
So far we have been able to donate $446,500.00 to other organizations that share our mission and are in need of our help. We've helped pay for sunshades at the local high school's swim deck, one at a low income child development center, at an orphanage, and will provide another later this year at an after-school center for children and teens. We've provided funds for patient care and assistance at 2 Cancer Centers, as well as to the largest free clinic in Palm Beach County. We've placed 12 free sunscreen dispensers in local parks, the beach, 2 YMCA's and 2 child care centers. We've gone to schools to speak to children regarding sun safety, and provided free hats and sunscreen to various organizations outdoor fundraising events, as well as to local children's gardening clubs and a club for "Differently-Abled" athletes. We've presented at the local library to adults seeking information. We also donated to life-saving Melanoma Research.
We need to be able to keep refilling the dispensers we have in place, place more dispensers where they are requested, provide more sunshades, and keep spreading awareness about sun safety to children and adults.
