BAKERSFIELD MASTER CHORALE INC
Enriching our community with choral music
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
To enrich our community with choral music. While many forms of musical expression remain, the performance by combined voices in a choral setting has been waning. Some schools, and houses of worship have had to abandon the use of "choirs" because of budget restraints or change of direction is how the music is shared.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Young Artist Development
This program identifies young singers and allows them to train with the Bakersfield Master Chorale during our concert season thus enriching their musical and choral arts skills.
Enrich the community's awareness of choral music.
The goals of this program are attained by presenting performances of major choral literature, secular and sacred, from all musical eras. Members of the chorale form a choral society of adult voices to entertain and enrich the choral and cultural arts of our community. Chorale singers and board members represent a broad cross-section of the community, ranging in age from college students to retired adults. Membership ranges from 75 to 100 or more singers.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
For our members: The Chorale will be fun, challenging and rewarding with a commitment to musical excellence in both repertory and performance.
For our audiences: The Chorale will provide events, primarily concerts, of consistently high quality and value.
For our patrons" The Chorale will engage donors, benefactors, sponsors and patrons professionally and with gratitude for their investments and support.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
With regard to our members:
1. It is essential to explore current repertory and minimize the amount of repetition of tunes.
2. Concerts should include both masterworks and more accessible repertory.
3. Training should be provided in singing and music reading so all members can contribute to the excellence of Chorale concerts.
With regard to our audiences:
1. Events will be presented in a way that is fresh and engaging so audience members of all ages can feel that attendance at BMC events is enriching in important and personal ways.
WIth regard to our patrons:
1. Performances, print, web and social media and personal endorsements should be viable avenues for sharing our gratitude to Chorale sponsors.
2. Patrons should be included in an appreciation event of some sort.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Since our re-organization in 2013, each year we have gained momentum in developing our mission, vision and strategies to accomplish our desire to enrich our community with choral music. We added a Young Artist Development Program that enriches and invests in up and coming choral musicians. We just added an assistant conductor to help with sectional and specific skilled based instruction. Our Music Director has 40 years experience in performance and choral education. Our Chorale membership is blended with young and old. All are involved because of their passion for choral music and sharing that with others.
We have consistent leadership through our Board of Directors, which includes Elected Officers and Appointed Chairs for multiple areas of leadership.
Our financial base is constant, though we see a need to expand our base and to make more donors aware of both our need and the results their investment makes.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
1. Non profit status established in 2013.
2. Young Artist Development Program established in 2015. With four graduates and four continuing enrolled.
3. Benefactor gifts have grown with our initiatives.
4. We added an Assistant Conductor to the Chorale in 2018.
5, We have grown from a three concert series to a five concert series.
6. We have have gone on an international tour (Italy) 2014; a Memorial Day concert in Washington, D.C. in 2016 and we are attending the Windy City Music Festival in Chicago in 2019.
