What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

1. Reduce the number of healthy dogs and cats euthanized at our partner shelters.
2. Reduce the number of unaltered animals leaving partner shelters which would contribute to the cycle of animal overpopulation, overcrowding and then killing of healthy adoptable animals.
3. Address the misconception of Pitbull Terriers as a dangerous group of dog breeds.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

1. Rescue and Rehabilitation
To rescue dogs and cats from kill shelters and from other at-risk situations and then placing them into forever homes.

2. Spay & Neuter
Spay & neuter all animals leaving the rescue and advocate spay & neuter to prevent overpopulation and health/behavior related issues.

3. Breed Discrimination Advocacy
Advocate and raise awareness against breed specific discrimination.

Our strategies center around fundraising and education. In order to achieve our first 2 goals we need to fundraise and expand our donor base to ensure we have sufficient funds available to fully vet the animals coming into our organization, some with major medical needs. We also need to continue to expand our active foster home base.

Our strategy to achieve our 3rd goal is by speaking with the public at adoption events and fundraisers to educate about spay & neuter and to be role model Pitbull parents.

We have a small group of committed fosters who are educated about the Pitbull group of breeds. They take the dogs into their own homes and prepare them for adoption by teaching them how to be a member of the family.

Our event volunteers are also all experienced with Pitbulls and BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) and are able to knowledgeably talk to the public about spay/neuter and the breed.

Our Board, Fosters and Volunteers are unpaid, so 100% of donations and revenue raised from fundraisers go towards our mission.

We utilize our social media sites (Facebook & Instagram) to promote a positive and responsible image of the breed.

We have established partnerships with Veterinarians in our area to ensure that we receive the most value from donated $.

-Pitties & Purrs first started in 2008 with 1 person and then became a 501c3 in 2013.
-Over the last few years we have grown our volunteer and foster base and currently have 40 active foster homes, with another 10 active volunteers (non-foster) for events. We have a dedicated Events Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator, Graphic Designer, 2 Adoption Coordinators and a Foster/Intake Coordinator.
-In 2014 (when we started keeping track) we had 77 total adoptions (dog and cat). In 2017 we had 176 total adoptions.
-We have grown our Facebook presence, with 9,500 followers to date, this year.
-We have re-vamped our website and made it easier for adopters to view and submit an application for our adoptable animals.
-We have increased our partnerships with shelters and currently take animals from shelters located in MD, PA, NJ, VA, WV, NC, SC.
-We are partners with Petco and PetSmart, as well as PetValu where we are able to showcase our adoptable cats at one of their locations.

We intend to continue to increase the total of number of adoptions year on year, but this is contingent on sustained and increased donations as well as available foster homes.

We will continue to increase our presence on social media and raise awareness of our organization to potential donors and adoptive homes.
