What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Emergency Congregational Shelter
Room in the Inn-Memphis (RITI) provides emergency shelter and respite for those experiencing homelessness in Memphis during the winter months, November-March. RITI recruits and coordinates a large network of faith groups/congregations to provide this service. The organized effort includes registration, pre-screening, orientation and coordination of the program as well as training for all volunteers. RITI guests are gathered at First United Methodist Church, where each congregation then provides transportation to and from downtown, a nutritious evening meal, a place to wash up or shower, hospitality, hygiene items, a comfortable place to sleep, breakfast and a sack lunch the following day. A hosting group volunteers for one night per week, or as little as one night per month, to welcome 12-15 homeless guests.
Family Inn
Families experiencing homelessness live in the privacy and comfort of a temporary home as they work toward permanent housing. During their stay families receive meals and supportive care as they work toward permanent housing. Educational and counseling programs for adults and children are available.
Recuperative Care Center
Unsheltered individuals who are medically fragile and in need of a safe place to recover from illness stay in private rooms with 3 meals a day. The staff coordinates care with medical providers and assists with the guests' housing goals. Opportunities for occupational coaching and counseling as well as physical strengthening are part of the recovery process.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Room in the Inn-Memphis purposes to solve the immediate safety issues for the homeless community overnight and to shelter them from the harsh elements in an environment of hospitality. Room in the Inn - Memphis is not an attempt
to resolve all of the issues of the homeless. The problems are too deep and too
personal. Until we see the need for shelter decrease in our community, our goal is to recruit more churches in the coming years so that more volunteers and guests alike can share in the joy of hospitality. In the ten years since we began, many individuals and families who we’ve supported have
found steady work and permanent housing.
This is the great joy of this ministry.
While we understand that not all in the homeless community have success
for stable living situations, it is our hope that they are safe and off the
streets. We also offer day hospitality to homeless individuals downtown. The provision of restrooms, showers and laundry facilities will help impact the dignity of unsheltered individuals. A long term goal is to offer a place of respite for medically fragile homeless due to a recent hospital stay, an illness, or an injury.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Volunteer and Congregational support are vital to the long-term success of Room In the Inn Memphis. Our strategies to support our Church partners and recruit new congregations will prove fruitful to the success of this organization. We must first become more financially stable. Attracting and keeping regular monthly donors will have a significant impact on achieving financial sustainability. We will also rely on partner congregations to provide monetary support so that we can pay the staff that are necessary to the management and organization of our guests and volunteers.
