Programs and results
What we aim to solve
The Hampton Roads Philharmonic seeks to provide the greater Hampton Roads and Virginia Peninsula communities with accessible classical music. We seek to provide an outlet to local musicians, retired military members, and more within our community to highlight our area’s rich musical talent.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Young Artist Competition
To foster musical talent in our community and give young musicians the valuable opportunity to perform as a soloist with an orchestra, the Hampton Roads Philharmonic is opens a portion of its season to feature a young soloist. Decided by an adjudicated competition, the winner will perform with the Hampton Roads Philharmonic as a featured soloist in its annual Young Artist Competition Showcase performance.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We strive for artistic excellence, increase community awareness and participation in the performing arts, program a diverse repertoire selection, and create various educational opportunities and experiences.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To expand the impact of classical music within Hampton Roads, we have developed a series of programs that enrich both our community and our members. We provide four concerts throughout the year, offering an exciting program of classical music to our community. Outside of our main performances, we have chamber groups that perform at special events, nursing homes, vineyards, and other places. To get our community involved in classical music, we host a Young Artists Competition, inviting artists under the age of 21 to audition for the chance to collaborate and perform with the philharmonic.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The Hampton Roads Philharmonic has many built-in capabilities to set our organization for success. Our board members come from an array of strategic management fields and have experience within the performing arts industry. We also have volunteers who have experience with event management, grant writing, and other duties organizing chamber performances and concerts.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since 2013, the Hampton Roads Philharmonic has sought to enrich the Hampton Roads community with classical music. We have achieved this by performing dozens of concerts both in Williamsburg and Downtown Hampton/Phoebus. Looking forward, we want to further our reach into the Newport News community and increase the number of performances we give annually.
