Building Bridges to FACE the Future

aka Broken Brains   |   Jackson, TN   |  www.brokenbrains.org

Mission

The main goal is to inform individuals on what mental illness really is and to break down the misconceptions that are out there. We want to give a better understanding as to what a day with mental illness is like and what the family goes through and the loss, grief, and victimization that can come from the individual and the system. Our goal is to give answers on how we, as a society, can step up and help those who have broken brains, instead of being scared of them and to learn to be proactive, instead of reactive after they hurt something or someone.

Charting impact

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?

Our goal is to have a place where family and individuals who need help, can access the information that they need for the state they live in.

Knowing that each situation is not the same, we realize that we must meet the needs of each families and individuals where they are. Because we are small, our goal right now is to help a larger amount of people with the small amount of volunteers that we have. Once we grow, our goal will become more individualized.

All of us have individuals in our families who some form of disabilities, from sever mental illness to just autism. Many of us have taken extra courses to learn, from the experts, on how to handle different situations from: how to be a parent advocate to cognitive behavior therapy at home. Several of us also hold medical degrees, from EMT's to Doctors and have seen what it is like first hand when there is no one there for those who need mental health help.

We will know if we are making progress by how the individuals we are working with grow. Yes, we would like to touch as many peoples lives as we are able. However, if we are only able to touch one, it will be all worth it!

We have been able to compose several PSAs and connect Facebook, twitter, and our website. We also have a monthly meeting, in the Jackson-Madison County TN are, for ages 12-22. They learn social, coping, and first aid skills. Our next goal is to start a once a month event for parent/caregivers to come and learn from experts. This way, they are able to possibly access programs they didn't know about, but they also have a time to talk with others who are talk similar journeys.
