What we aim to solve
Losing a loved one can be a frightening and lonely experience, Richard Lambert Foundation believes no child or adult should grieve alone. Grief is a process of emotion that affects all of us and can be overwhelming and sometimes debilitating, impacting the ability to function. There is a gap in communities for the needs of grieving families and demand for services offered to children and adults at the grief center continues to increase with a growing number of referrals. Bereaved children and adults should have access to grief support, and the Richard Lambert Foundation is committed to providing families a place to grieve and to begin and/or work through their healing process with support, structure and compassion.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Therapeutic Group Support
Richard Lambert Foundation provides various no-cost therapeutic group programs offering clients a place of community to connect with others who have experienced a similar loss, harnessing the power of human connection rather than grieving alone. Support programs have been ongoing and expanding since 2014. Current programs include; five monthly group therapy programs focusing on child loss, suicide loss, spouse/partner loss, dating and love after loss, a group open to all losses, and community enrichment programs.
Low Cost Professional Grief Counseling
Richard Lambert Foundation provides one-on-one counseling in-person and by telehealth on a sliding fee scale, with rates starting as low as $10. Counseling is available to individuals as young as five, couples, and families impacted by loss, trauma, and emotional distress who need a more direct approach to therapeutic care. After the death of a loved one, each individual will face distinct challenges. Our team of professionals, trained in grief management, focuses on each individual's unique abilities, empowering them to incorporate and build upon their strengths.
Community Bereavement Support
Has your organization, business, healthcare team, sports team, school, or youth organization, suffered a loss? Richard Lambert Foundation can provide your group a safe place to talk, a general overview of grief and mourning, self-care ideas, healthy coping skill techniques, and an opportunity to memorialize the person who died.
Educational Presentations
Richard Lambert Foundation offers educational presentations and training on grief, loss, and practical ways to address someone mourning the loss of a loved one. If your child, friend, business, family member, associate, or other close individual has experienced a death, we will provide helpful information on understanding their needs during grief. Knowledge is power.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We have felt the impact and need for grief services and have grown tremendously since our establishment in 2013. Currently, we have provided support to nearly 1,192 bereaved children and adults throughout Colorado communities. Grief care is essential in learning to “pick up the pieces of your life” while honoring your loved one and learning to live with purpose.
Richard Lambert Foundation goals:
1. Expand the capacity of access to grief care for children and adults affected with distinct and unique challenges following the death of a loved one
2. Increase grief care with a diverse spectrum of grief management approaches
3. Extend outreach to increase education and awareness for grief support
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Avoiding loss and feelings associated with grief is not healthy and may prolong healing. It is necessary to mourn, which is to openly express thoughts and feelings about the death. We provide access to healthy grieving through the following initiative:
1. Grief Care Through Direct Services - RLF will provide free programs in addition to the use of our sliding fee scale for individual, couple, family, group, child and adolescent therapy. Ensuring all families have access to reduced or waived fees based on a sliding scale fee structure according to income that includes the option of fee adjustments due to financial hardship.
2. Diverse Counseling and Supportive Modalities - RLF continues to research, seek and assess best practices in grief care approaches to better serve families in our community to initiate programming to meet the needs of grieving children and adults.
3. Outreach, Education and Awareness - RLF will increase outreach efforts targeting schools, healthcare staff and funeral directors.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
1. Our Board of Directors is committed to meeting monthly to advance the organizational mission and is actively involved in strategic and fundraising planning. RLF has demonstrated its ability to grow and remain financially sustainable. We seek funding from many sources, including at least two annual fundraising events, business sponsorships, direct public support, and grant funding.
2. Our team of professionals trained in grief management provides opportunities for children and adults to honor, find hope, and seek healing through companionship, education, and remembrance through diverse grief management programs, services, and events. We provide therapeutic art programs and psycho-educational support groups, including monthly grief support groups.
3. By offering bereavement training and awareness of available grief care, we can collaborate, expand and develop a network of providers to meet the needs of bereaved community members better.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
RLF has demonstrated its ability to grow by extending services throughout Colorado communities. Current reports include but are not limited to serving bereaved children and adults in 28 cities throughout 9 counties statewide.
Building caring relationships combined with compassionate service has enabled past RLF clients to take their energy once devoted to grieving into something meaningful through the gift of volunteering, offering valuable information and support to new clients. Our client's success in the ability to find hope is our success!
