Abdelkader Education Project

A journey of discovery connecting continents and cultures across centuries.

Mission

The Abdelkader Education Project (AEP) creates resources and opportunities that promote cultural understanding & global citizenship. AEP imagines a world where fears are replaced with empathy, ignorance is replaced with knowledge, and the human community is flourishing. We believe everyone must work together to protect and unify our shared society at a time when it is threatened by division. We live this belief by advocating for cultural knowledge, educating leaders, and promoting the Emir Abd el-Kader as a model humanitarian.

Abdelkader Student Prize

We offer a contest which is split into two categories: middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (9-12). Students may write an essay between 300-500 words, based on their grade, answering a prompt regarding Abdelkader and his values. The prompt is age-appropriate for each category to receive the highest quality of entries for that age group. Additionally, there is an art option for both groups that requires students to create a graphic story (comic) based on one vignette from the Abdelkader Stage Project. Further details can be found on our website under Competitions -> Student Contests.

Materials can be used as written or adapted to meet the needs of the Educators. Teacher and student feedback on the experience are required. Further details can be found on our website under Competitions -> Abdelkader Educator Prize.

Teachers

Our curriculum supports our mission of educating and advocating for cultural understanding, especially in regard to religion. We have developed middle and high school lessons that are primarily--but not exclusively--intended for social studies, global studies, and world history classrooms in public and private schools. We recognize that educational trends evolve and what we believe to be “true” changes; for this reason, our curriculum is in a constant state of renewal. We update, add, and retire pieces to meet the changing needs of classroom teachers.

Our educational programming consists primarily of outreach to teachers, introducing them to our curricular offerings and listening to their curricular needs. At AEP, we believe that teachers hold the key to systemic change. We present at conferences, we hold professional development workshops, and we create relationships with individual teachers, actively supporting them in the classroom. In addition, we run annual student and educator c
