Certified Sustainable Building Practioner
Addressing the energy efficiency of buildings is critical to decarbonization efforts and global emissions-reductions targets. Buildings account for about 40 percent of U.S. energy consumption including more than 70 percent of its electricity. Building energy codes that require high-efficiency building envelope technologies coupled with high-performance heating and cooling equipment and lighting are a near-term effective policy tool for state and local governments working with communities toward meeting ambitious sustainability goals.
The course is predicated on what an applicant for certification would need to know to design, construct, finance and operate a sustainable building based on energy efficient and sustainable energy practices that are technically sound, available, sustainable and cost efficient and thereby pushing aside barriers to employment.
The course integrates eight fundamentals for creating and building tomorrow’s sustainable climate friendly buildings:
• Sustainability
• Finance
• Legal
• Design
• Construction
• Technology
• Energy Management
• Operations & Maintenance
Each class will be sized to accommodate up to 100 students. The course will take about six months to complete including the final exam and assessment. The course is designed to be sustainable for many years with modest adjustments in the workbook to reflect new rules and mandates from the regulators as they occu
Energy Project Finance, Analysis & Structuring
The course is required for taking further energy financing courses offered by the Green NRG Institute. The course gives a basic overview of how to use the HP12C financial calculator in preparation for the advanced energy financing and analysis courses. The central theme of the course is “Time Value of Money” or TVM. TVM is used in calculating all analysis of the financial impact of implementing energy efficiency or energy generation projects used by energy professionals.
The course is designed to help readers learn about the HP12C as a tool for energy project financing and to gain experience in its use. They do not replace the manuals offered by HP but offer a hands-on way to learn some of the many HP12C features—in particular those needed by practitioners of energy projects. Subsequent energy training courses will use all the basic functions the student will learn in this five-module course.
The course is broken down into 5 training modules over a 10-week period with a proficiency examination given at the end of the 5th module. Each module is 4 hours in length.
