Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
In short term, our goal is to raise awareness that depression is real, it is treatable, and early intervention is the key.
Our long term goal is to influence policy changes and also establish a model treatment center to treat depression in honor of our son Dominic Britti. The center would provide integrated treatment to depression similar to the ones available to cancer patients.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
In order for us to reach more students, parents, and counselors we are in the process of creating video presentations and manuals for future presenters. In order to do this we are are partnering with corporations to spread awareness and to do fundraisers. We are also applying for grants in order to facilitate our growth.
Our organization is located in Maryland, this facilitates us to meet with political leaders. We have already started connecting with politicians to encourage policy changes relating to mental health.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
One of our goals at Parents Against Depression, Inc., is to bridge the gap between research and practice. The scientists and physicians with whom we have partnered have aided us greatly in understanding current research. They continue to provide us with information on how to implement possible changes and enhancements in treatment.
The secretary of our organization has a lot of experience working with non-profit organizations and is familiar with fundraising events.
The vice president of the organization has many years of experience in two important areas of healthcare: laboratory analysis and hospital public relations and marketing.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have been successful in raising awareness that depression is real by reaching out to over 5,000 high school health class students. We received feedback from the students that after our presentation they were able to overcome the stigma and ask for help. So far, we have been in Carol , Washington, and Montgomery County Maryland. By the end of 2016 we hope to be national.
