ANIMAL HOPE AND WELLNESS FOUNDATION
The Compassion Project
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation seeks to expand shelter space within the US to better serve our rescued animals with full rehabilitation services and agility training. The foundation seeks to push for more structured educational programs throughout schools in Southern California, catering to pre-k children and young adults, including at risk youth. Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation is working to expand a shelter reform initiative, intensive focus on cruelty cases, and a small number of legislative efforts.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Senior Rehabilitative Center
Each week the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation visits the seniors at the center in Sherman Oaks California. By engaging the community with the help of our canine friends the center brightens up everybody's week.
Dog and Puppy Therapy
Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation takes dogs to visit the fertility clinic and other places for puppy/dog therapy for the staff and clientele.
Pawsitive Change Program
Pawsitive Change is a program that pairs up inmates with dogs on death row from city shelters. The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation also participates in this program. Once they have finished the program the dogs are adopted out to loving homes.
Adopt-a-Rape Victim Program
Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation introduces dogs to victims of abuse or trauma to help decrease anxiety, lower the risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and to increase trust over time. These therapy sessions have worked wonders.
Pre-K Pups
Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation's volunteers take dogs to local nursery schools. Volunteers share the dogs stories and teach compassion.
Paws-4-Life
Our operations manager and lead trainer teaches an intensive six week course to at risk youth. Animal Hope and Wellness dogs participate in demonstration and training. The youth earns credit to be applied to completing their general education.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation has liberated over hundreds of dogs from the dog and cat meat trade throughout Asia. The foundation has opened an educational center in Changsha China and strives to create one in the United States. Animal Hope and Wellness will now focus on cruelty cases and legislation. The organization strives to push HR 1406 (The Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act), the Los Angeles City Fur Ban, Riley's Law, and shelter reform initiatives.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation encountered an influx of tortured dogs and cats stuffed into cages to be transported to meat buyers in China for the annual Yulin meat festival, where dogs and cats are tortured for over 40-hours in an effort to increase adrenaline and tenderize the meat that is believed to have medicinal properties and promote superstitious health benefits. AHWF was left with several dogs and cats with broken bones. In an effort to improve the chance for survival, AHWF is building an onsite vet hospital in Changsha China, fully equipped with the necessities of western medicine to help with anesthesia for surgeries, amputations, spay/neuters, and most importantly to help prevent and cure distemper.
Our organizational structure and education programs in the United States continue to grow and are presently implemented through social outreach. Animal Hope and Wellness engages the public through a learning experience at physical rehabilitation centers that cater to the elderly, preschools and most recently with at risk youth. With guest speaking engagements and demonstrations we intend to provide regular educational programs to students and veterans.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
AHWF currently has the dedicated help of a devoted family that has managed to employ staff in Changsha China. Together they are working on keeping quarantine for the sick while those deemed healthy are kept in a separate location on the property. We have earned the interests of medical school graduates from the east coast who have expressed their interest to help with our efforts that will ultimately benefit the animals. These educated professionals have volunteered their time to travel to our safe house in China to help mentor and teach our current vet about the basic protocols and safety regulations involved with anesthesia and performing intensive surgeries. AHWF has an enormous social media following that has garnered the attention of donors and volunteers over the years. One donor in particular has offered to hire and work with an architect and contractor to help provide the necessities of an actual animal hospital compete with sanitary necessities to prevent cross contamination and the spreading of infectious diseases. All contributions are donated on our supporters behalf.
Animal Hope and Wellness takes part in teaching at risk youth compassion for animals while demonstrating leash training and behavioral adjustments and modifications. This intensive five week course not only provides hands on training but it also provides credits so that young adults can meet their academic goals.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation (AHWF) has gone undercover to stay out abuse cases and gather evidence to confirm that harm is being done to an animal throughout Southern California. Most recently AHWF has gone to remote locations throughout Asia to track down dog and cat slaughterhouses to document ethical concerns surrounding how the animals or purposely tortured prior to their slaughter. It is not illegal to slaughter dogs and cats in China. AHWF has established an educational center at our shelter in Changsha China. Small groups of children are invited to the shelter to learn about compassion. This will help the youth to empathize and see animals more as friends rather than as food supply. Animal Hope and Wellness seeks to expand these sorts of educational resources and has partnered with Learn-4-Life which caters to at-risk youth. This domestic program is called Paws-4-Life.
Supporters within Canada and the UK have also helped pay the cost of transport to have our overseas dogs or cats adopted out to them directly.
Many of our supporters learn of these rescues by viewing our post on social media. AHWF continues to rescue the dogs that nobody wants, and to promote education worldwide. AHWF hopes to also effect change in legislation to provide better protection measures for all animals, especially throughout the regions where there are none.
