What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

It’s not only important to want to help, it’s vital to understand what our community actually needs. We identify communities with the most need and connect them with individuals & organizations best suited to serve them. Everyone has unique skills, talents, and privilege. It’s our goal to help people recognize these strengths and share them with those who need it.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Uncover KC Discovery Education Program

Through experiential learning, the Uncover KC Discovery Education Program provides opportunities and structure for students to become active service leaders within their schools and communities. This is accomplished by facilitating sustainable and engaging impact for students through community service based curriculum, off-campus volunteer outings, in-class projects or speakers and innovative technology.

These experiences provide an environment for respect, empathy and compassion to flourish, while also giving students authentic tools to become the changemakers and social leaders of tomorrow. Built around principals like self-awareness, leadership, community involvement, belonging and reflection, the Uncover KC Discovery Education Program positively impacts society by positively shaping the very generations that will soon lead it.

The Uncover KC Corporate Cares Program provides opportunities and structure for employees to become active leaders within their companies and communities. This is accomplished by facilitating sustainable, engaging impact for staff through service-based initiatives, off-campus volunteer outings, in-office projects or speakers, and innovative technology.

These experiences provide an environment for respect, empathy and compassion to flourish. Built around the outcomes of team building, leadership, community involvement, personal development and company exposure, the UKC Corporate Cares Program positively impacts society by fostering socially responsible businesses.

Population(s) Served

Domestic workers

The Uncover KC Collaborative Courts Program provides opportunities and structure for court-mandated volunteers to fulfill required service hours. This is accomplished by connecting defendants with local, pre-screened organizations, then accurately verifying and reporting completed hours, thus saving court officials time and money.

Not only does the program benefit courts, it also benefits individuals. Research shows that diversion programs reduce the rate of repeat offenders, provide financial relief for criminal justice systems, and support rehabilitation — all while benefiting local communities.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

To engage, educate, and provide opportunities to communities to build a more aware, loving, connected, and inclusive society.

To bring together and connect the civic, education, corporate, and nonprofit sectors to accelerate the power of service.

To support innovation, creativity, and forward-thinking.

To be resourceful; be people-focused; be innovative and to operate in an effective and efficient manner that honors our mission while ensuring financial stability and organizational growth.

We develop and lead programming focused on engaging people and coordinating volunteers. These programs and services include:
- The Discovery Education Program aims to provide service learning in the classroom.
- The Corporate Cares Program targets community service in the workplace.
- The Collaborative Courts Program works to improve justice reform.
- Individual Volunteering Service helps the general public serve others.
- Community Development Services oversees collective impact projects.
- Volunteer Management Services helps revitalize volunteer operations for nonprofits and events.

We also create connections focused on cross-sector connections that can produce waves of social change and personal relationships by:
- Identifying stakeholders & prospective partners
- Diversifying partner base & project types
- Developing strategic connections to enhance the city’s focus on local impact and community service growth
- Hosting community-based social events

Lastly, our organization focuses on mission-driven operations, leveraging relationships; generating revenue and fostering an impactful and meaningful culture. This includes:
- Creating rewards & recognition programs
- Intentionally ensuring more diverse leadership & participation
- Improving online presence, automation & marketing efforts
- And continuing to offer organization socials

Thanks to hundreds of partnerships and our drive for new connections, we are able to become a center of cross-sector collaboration in any community in the Midwest. As an example, below is a network that we created within the Kansas City, Missouri Public School System:

Through our Discovery Education program, we have impacted students from over 10 KCPS schools thanks to partnerships with local organizations like 20/20 Leadership, the Student District Advisory Council (SDCA) and Urban Youth Academy.

With our Corporate Cares program, we have helped companies like Port KC, Made in KC, KC Crew and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation become the social leaders they want to be in this community.

Our community event partnerships include the KCPS Summerfest, KCSourcelink Global Entrepreneurship Week and City Year MLK Day of Service. Speaking of the Kauffman Foundation and City Year KC, they headline a multitude of community relationships we have build in addition to the Kansas City Police Department, Missouri Rotarians, Hire KC Youth, KC STEM Alliance and more.

Finally, our organization has help more than 400 organizations better connect with their respective Kansas City communities. Lead to Read, Newhouse, Operation Breakthrough and Harvesters make up just 1% of those impacted by UKC services. To see firsthand how quickly the nonprofit can produce authentic connectivity, visit uncoverkc.org.

In our first 6 years of existence, we've tallied 101,945 completed service hours; recruited 49,901 volunteers; empowered over 400 organizations and provide more than $2,6 million in value for area nonprofits.

Our vision is to secure our financial and organizational stability during this post-pandemic world, and then expand to other cities in the Midwest, nationally and finally globally.
