Crowdsourcing the Cure for Aging
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Aging affects every human on the planet, but until very recently aging was not seen as a modifiable risk factor that can be brought under medical control. In the last 20 years, the root causes of aging (the Hallmarks of aging) have been identified and are new therapeutic targets. Medical science now has the potential to develop cures and prevention approaches for age-related diseases that previously had few or no treatment options. It is expected that medical technology targeting the root mechanisms of aging will offer relief to millions of people worldwide. There is data indicating that the implementation of those medical innovations may lead to huge savings and reduction of pressure on healthcare and welfare systems in the US and worldwide. However, the public is not well informed about the changing paradigm in medical science targeting aging. We want to fill that gap quickly enough so people can benefit from innovative treatments the moment those treatments become available.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Public Education and Journalism
As part of its mission, Lifespan.io is committed to informing the public regarding the science and societal benefits of overcoming age-related disease, by understanding the core mechanisms of the aging process.
To this purpose Lifespan.io manages the world's most trafficked news outlet regarding this subject, produces engaging video content on platforms such as YouTube and Facebook that reach millions, hosts online and offline networking events to accelerate progress, and creates informational materials that policymakers, doctors, and advocates can rely upon to build longevity-promoting healthcare systems.
Supporting Research on Aging
As part of its mission, Lifespan.io is committed to raising funds and awareness for research aimed at overcoming age-related diseases - such as Alzheimer’s, heart disease, and cancer - more effectively by addressing the core mechanisms of the aging process itself.
To this purpose Lifespan.io runs the world's must successful crowdfunding platform for aging research, organizes monthly pitch meetings between investors and promising longevity-focused startup companies, hosts large-scale conferences to drive the industry forward, and produces open-access online events where scientists can educate each other and the public regarding the latest research.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our primary goal is to inform the public about the development and potential of rejuvenation biotechnology. By the end of 2022, we aim at reaching out to over 4 million people worldwide with our news, interviews, short documentaries, and other media projects, helping the public to understand the field of aging research.
Our second goal is to advocate for more funding and public dialogue on the regulatory environment in order to accelerate medical research focused on aging and innovating therapies addressing the root causes of aging (the Hallmarks of aging). To that end, we aim at making 20+ public interviews annually with public health advocates, demographers, economists whose scientific work exposes the potential benefits of investing into the development of rejuvenation biotechnology and its fast implementation.
Our third goal is to help allocate more funding into aging research by running crowdfunding projects every year, organizing monthly pitch sessions for investors entering aging research field, organizing scientific conferences annually to promote networking of academia with philanthropy and investment communities.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To achieve our goals, we are running and constantly improving our news outlet focused on aging research, as well as our presence on Social Media. We are working with a team of professional journalists and video producers, setting up collaborations with external contributors - experts from the rejuvenation biotechnology industry, offering our content for free republishing to other advocacy organizations, news outlets, and other public companies to promote the spreading of the accurate, evidence-based and easy-to-understand information about aging research beyond our own audience.
We are also organizing an annual scientific conference, panel discussions, journal clubs and other events to help key stakeholders exchange information and form new scientific and business collaborations.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Thanks to the support from our donors, we are working with a team of professional journalists and video producers, setting up collaborations with external contributors - experts from the rejuvenation biotechnology industry, setting up collaborations with large YouTube channels focused on science, and TV programs. All new content goes to our website, contributing to the growth of its traffic, and is also shared on Social Media to further increase the number of views.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
By now, we
- crowdfunded 9 aging research projects, including one human clinical trial, by collecting over $600.000
- published over 1.500 articles and interviews about aging research
- reached out to over 14 million people worldwide with our journalism and advocacy initiatives
