ONE STEP FOR ANIMALS

Tucson, AZ   |  http://www.onestepforanimals.org/

Mission

Given that the vast, vast majority of factory-farmed animals are chickens, we are focused on getting people to reduce their consumption of chickens, rather than asking people to eat less meat, try vegetarian, or go vegan. The most important insight driving us is what won Herb Simon his Nobel Prize in Economics: People don't make optimal or perfect decisions. Rather, almost everyone makes choices based on what is a bit better or is good enough. In almost every sense, nearly everyone considers eating chickens to be better than eating cows or pigs. At this time, we truly believe numbers-focused harm reduction is the best way to both reduce suffering as well as work toward the world we want: a world where animals aren't viewed as food.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We want fewer animals to suffer. For every dollar donated, we want to reduce as much suffering as possible.

We have identified that factory farming is the largest source of cruelty to animals in the US. We seek to expose this otherwise-hidden cruelty to as many receptive people as possible, and offer them alternatives. Our main tools for this are online outreach (our main focus) and booklet distribution.

Since 2014, we have been expanding our capabilities. Upon founding, we were already expert at booklet creation, production, and distribution. Since our founding, though, we have worked hard to learn as much about online outreach as possible. We are continually seeking to experiment, test, and improve.

Each year, our many different Facebook and Instagram campaigns are seen many millions of times, with hundreds of thousands of clicks to our video landing page, www.OneStepToHelp.com. We have also handed our booklets directly to tens of thousands of individuals. Our goal is to continue to refine our outreach, and continue to expand our reach.
