Mission

Richard &Carol Yager and their son Matt invite everyone to celebrate the life and memory of their dear daughter Caitlin. Caitlin, a 19 year old student at Marietta College, died after a tragic car accident on December 26, 2013. She wasa runner on the Marietta Cross Country team, a history & land management major, and was looking forward to studying abroad in Russia. She then planned on attending law school. All proceeds go towards Run for Caitlin Inc., a nonprofit corporation which will award scholarships to Cardinal Mooney High School and other educational institutions. There is no greater gift for the Yagers than to provide young students an opportunity to have a successful and rewarding life through assisting in the funding of their education.

What we aim to solve

We continue to offer scholarships to deserving high school students in the Mahoning Valley, an economically distressed region. Beginning in 2018, we also awarded six $1000 college scholarships to assist in the higher education of local students. For 2019, we are in the process of awarding $5000 in college scholarships to five local high school graduates who will be attending Youngstown State University in the Fall as well as our continuing tuition support for students at Cardinal Mooney High School. We are grateful for the support of local members of our community who sponsor our annual major fund raiser, The Run for Caitlin. It is hard to believe that we will hold our 6th Annual Run for Caitlin on July 20, 2019! It seems like we were just planning the Inaugural Run for Caitlin, in 2014! Run for Caitlin Inc. is awards scholarships to current Cardinal Mooney High School students as well as incoming students and also college freshman. The original goal was to award five $1,500.00 scholarships. In 2015 - our first year for awarding scholarships, Run for Caitlin, Inc. awarded six $1,500.00 scholarships to students attending Cardinal Mooney High School. In 2016, eight $1,500.00 scholarships were awarded. We have also awarded (July 22, 2017), eight $1,500.00 scholarships to students attending Cardinal Mooney High School. There is a great need for families for tuition support who value the education which is provided through Cardinal Mooney High School. Addressing the need for tuition support in our region guided Run for Caitlin to provide college scholarships as well as high school scholarships beginning in 2018. We reached out to three area high schools and developed a college scholarship application. So, in 2018 we not only awarded nine $1,000.00 scholarships to students attending Cardinal Mooney High School, but also awarded six $1,000.00 scholarships to students beginning college in Fall 2018. We were able to provide 4 students each with $1000.00 scholarships to attend Youngstown State University and one $1000.00 scholarship each for a student at John Carroll University and at Gannon University. To date, Run for Caitlin, Inc. has awarded a total of $48,000.00 to local high school and college students! We are so thankful to our community for their continued support which has given us the ability to celebrate the life and legacy of Caitlin Yager!

Major sponsors who support our cause and whose logos and/or names are displayed on our website and on our race shirts. The major fund raiser is an annual race featuring an 8K and a 3K course and funds are raised through race registrations, a basket raffle, and additional monetary donations. We are a small, hard-working, and dedicated organization. We rely on "word of mouth" and community support for our fund raising efforts.

Major sponsors are annually contacted using a sponsor form; new sponsors are sought through the community. The race is promoted through local media, including television and the newspaper. We also have a Facebook account and use other social media when appropriate.

We have raised approximately $17,000- $19,000 for each of our six years (2014 to 2019) and have been able to provide scholarships in excess of our original goal of five $1,500.00 annual awards. The first scholarships were awarded at the 2nd Annual Run for Caitlin at which time we were able to award six $1,500.00 scholarships for a total of $9,000.00. At the 3rd Annual Run for Caitlin in 2016, we awarded eight $1,500.00 scholarships for a total of $12,000.00. At the 4th Annual Run for Caitlin in 2017, we awarded another eight, $1,500.00 scholarships for a total of $12,000.00. In 2018, we added six $1,000.00 college scholarships to the nine $1,000.00 high school scholarships for a total amount of scholarship money awarded of $15,000.00. Thus, to date Run for Caitlin, Inc. has provided $48,000.00 in scholarships to students at Cardinal Mooney High School in just three years. We are in the process of awarding college scholarships and reviewing application for the high school scholarships for 2019.

The first scholarships were awarded at the 2nd Annual Run for Caitlin at which time we were able to award six $1,500.00 scholarships for a total of $8,000.00. Thus, to date Run for Caitlin, Inc. has provided $32,000.00 in scholarships to students at Cardinal Mooney High School in just three years. 6 scholarships worth $1500 were awarded at our race on July 25, 2015. We strive to award more scholarships in the future. There is a tremendous impact of a $1,500 scholarship to families who struggle to finance their child's education at such a high quality private, Catholic academic institution.
