What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Summer camp
We provide a weeklong summer camp for children with cancer and blood disorders, breaking it down between age groups. Children ages 6 - 12 attend from Sunday noon to Wednesday noon, and children ages 13 - 17 attend from Wednesday night to Sunday noon.
Sibling camp
This is a new camp to be launched in fall 2009. The need for this camp was best described by the two Parent Representatives on our BOD:
When your child gets cancer, so much of everything gets directed toward the child that is sick - the parent's time and attention, the attention of friends and relatives, gifts, recognition, etc. The sibling of the child with cancer gets many of the negatives - fear of losing a cherished playmate, lots of boring time sitting around at appointments, being cared for by others while parents are busy with the sick child, etc. It would be wonderful if these sibling children had the opportunity to have something good come out of cancer, where they could have time just for themselves, and to know they are not the only ones who have experienced the fear and loneliness that these kids feel. A CoHoLo sibling camp would be a wonderful way to show these kids that they are as special as their brother or sister with cancer.
