What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
IB Academy
International Ballet Academy provides the highest level of classical ballet training for the young student to the professional dancer; Building technique, musicality, coordination, & strength through structured classes; Community-focused with high value placed on respect, self-discipline, responsibility, and peer support.
Storytime Ballet
A partnership with the Greenville County Library System, International Ballet’s free programs introduce children to the world of ballet through dance-themed books. The performance/readings allow young children the opportunity to see the costumes and performers up-close and meet the dancers after the show. Programs are presented at a regional branch and main branch locations. Over 1,000 children and their families attend a Storytime Ballet performance each season.
Accessibility Class
A partnership with Thrive Upstate, International Ballet offers a free weekly ballet class for adults with intellectual disabilities. Taught by IB President & Founder Lena Forster, the class incorporates elements of ballet conditioning to bring movement, fitness, musicality, pleasure, and creativity to the students and volunteers. In addition to the weekly class, regular participants and volunteers are invited to attend The Nutcracker at no cost and perform in the Academy’s annual year-end demonstration.
The Nutcracker Tea
The Nutcracker Tea is a cherished Upstate event that offers young children and their families the beginnings of a Nutcracker tradition in celebration of the holidays. Guests enjoy tea, refreshments, delicious cake by Jonathan Caleb, a souvenir Nutcracker, Keepsake Photo with the Dewdrop Fairy, Nutcracker Story Time, and an Exclusive Performance by International Ballet Nutcracker dancers. Sponsors for the Tea align their business with a family-friendly, quality arts organization and event.
The Nutcracker
A classic holiday family tradition presented at the Peace Center in Greenville, South Carolina and featuring the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and guest principal dancers.
Other MainStage Productions

- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We disaggregate data by demographics, including race, in every policy and program measured.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We measure and then disaggregate job satisfaction and retention data by race, function, level, and/or team.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
