What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

About MPact: MPact Global Action for Gay Men’s Health and Rights was founded in 2006 by an international group of activists who were concerned about the disproportionate HIV burden being shouldered by gay and bisexual men. We have since expanded our work to focus on the broader sexual health and human rights needs of all men who have sex with men. Our mission is to advocate for equitable access to effective HIV prevention, care, treatment, and support services for gay men and bisexual men, including those living with HIV, while promoting health and human rights worldwide. We work around the world to identify and advocate for policies that protect the rights of queer people and ensure that queer people have full access to robust, culturally competent healthcare. MPact draws on the expertise and lived experience of our staff and partners in country to channel resources and advocate for adequate funding at the global level to address the most urgent public health crises facing our com

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Bridging The Gaps

Bridging the Gaps is an international HIV initiative focused on the health and rights of LGBT people, sex workers, and people who use drugs. Funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and led by Aids Fonds, the program was developed and is implemented in 16 countries by an alliance of 5 Dutch-based organizations, 4 global key population networks, and more than 100 local partner organizations. A central website describing the overall program is available at www.hivgaps.org

Population(s) Served
LGBTQ people

Men who have sex with men have played a central role in designing and implementing HIV prevention, treatment, care and support programs since the start of the HIV epidemic. For more than 30 years, their expertise, creativity, energy and fortitude have shaped the global response to the epidemic in important and indelible ways. The MSM Implementation Toolkit (MSMIT) seeks to honor and support the legacy forged by men who have sex with men at the community level and which they continue to create. It therefore gives particular attention to programs run or led by men who have sex with men themselves, in contexts where this is possible.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

MPact's primary goal is to resource and support organizations around the world advancing the health and rights of queer and transgender people. We meet this goal through strategic grantmaking, technical assistance, training and community engagement, as well as advocacy. Our vision is a world where queer and transgender people living or vulnerable to HIV live healthly and fully liberated lives, free of discrimination and violence.

MPact works with individuals and organizations across the world to seed movements that advance the health, rights, and liberation of queer and transgender people. We carry out these activities through the following strategic priorities:

- Grant-making: We raise and distribute more than $1.8 million per year to community based organizations around the world working to advance the rights of queer and transgender people.

- Supporting Movements: We provide training to individuals and technical support to organizations to foster the next generation of advocates on the front lines of LGBTQ+ rights and the global HIV response.

- Advocacy & Communication: We conduct policy research, educate policy makers, and advocate in the halls of power for the health and rights of our community.

MPact is uniquely positioned to meet our goals.

- Our visionary Board of directs is comprised of accomplished leaders from across multiple sectors.
- Our staff and support team are experts in the respective fields and are positioned around the world to be strategically close to our partners.
- Our robust funding gives us the ability to engage in longt-term strategic planning.

MPact has made significant and measurable progress in advancing our mission over the last several years. We have seeded movements advancing queer and trans rights in some of the most hostile places in the world for our community. The advocates we have cultivated have emerged as leaders in their countries. Our convening power has brought communities together across borders to grapple with the most pressing crises our community has faced, from emerging health emergencies such as Monkeypox, scaling up access to biomedical HIV prevention, and mobilizing to change laws that criminalize queer and trans identity and same sex behavior.
