What we aim to solve
The suicide rate in Kern County continues to rise. SALT is focusing on prevention through education and advocacy. After a Suicide death, survivors many times need help with funeral costs, SALT is assisting in funeral expenses and reducing stigma associated with suicide

Funeral assistance
Assist newly bereaved of suicide loss to help defray funeral costs
Support of different programs
Sponsors different trainings of various groups for suicide awareness. LGBTQ, Corrections Officers BikeRun for awareness, Interfaith grief conference, working on mini grants to outlying communities for suicide awareness.

Billboards in KC with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number that scrolls every 6 seconds for awareness

Working with funeral homes and others to assist loved one after a loss to Suicide
Attend health fairs and community events to provide education and information on suicide prevention and stigma reduction
Start working with gun shops and ranges to educate about suicide awareness, 52% of suicides are done by firearm, education can teach about means restriction
Spread the word that suicide is preventable
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have been assisting those bereaved by suicide since our inception, attended many events to spread suicide prevention awareness, with printed information to hand out. Spreading awareness via social media, billboards, info on referrals for help
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Assisted over 30 families with funeral expenses, and will continue to, attended numerous community events to spread awareness and reduce stigma
