What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Unemployment is a source of economic underperformance, social unrest, and individual despair. When Generation started in 2015, more than 75 million young people were unemployed globally. Today, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated prior workforce trends -- automation, digitization, remote work, industry shifts -- leaving hundreds of millions of people unemployed or facing reduced income, with jobless mid-career and younger underrepresented populations particularly hard-hit. Generation aims to prepare that underemployed talent pool to access high-demand, growing career fields.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Generation’s vision is a meaningful career and sustained well-being for every person, anywhere in the world.

Generation recruits, trains and places disconnected people in jobs through a seven-step approach that goes beyond training alone. The seven components to our approach are:
1. Jobs and employer engagement from the start
2. Learner recruitment based on intrinsics, effort, and employment standards for the profession
3. 4-12 weeks of technical, behavioral, mindset & professional presence skill training, with social support services provided
4. Interviews with employer partners for immediate job placement
5. Mentorship during and after the program, and community that follows graduates into the workplace
6. Return on investment for employers, students, and society
7. A data-centered approach at every step

Generation has a global staff of over 400 committed experts across all critical functions: curriculum development, software development, strategy, operations, finance, marketing & communications, etc.

Generation is comprised of an overarching global team and individual teams at the country level. This allows the organization to drive unified action at scale, while also having the capability to rapidly modify programming to address granular local needs.

We recognize that no single organization can solve underemployment alone, so we build coalitions of employers, delivery partners, funders, and policy makers to deliver on our mission. We have over 5,500 employer partners, 75+ implementation partners, and many funders.

Generation has more than 45,000 graduates across 16 countries, four sectors and 30+ professions. Cumulatively, 83% of graduates are employed within 3 months of completing the program with salaries that are 3.9 times their pre-Generation income on average. Furthermore, 84% of employers say Generation graduates outperform their peers on the job.

We seek to continue evolving and expanding our core programs, deepening and expanding partnerships with other workforce stakeholders to drive equitable global jobs recovery, and all the while ensuring access for those who need it most. We also aim to pursue research, innovation, and advocacy to shape the education to employment ecosystem.
