Arts, Culture, and Humanities

Roslindale, MA

Our mission is to model and teach self-expression, peer leadership and community development through the transformative power of chamber music. musiConnects accomplishes its mission by engaging in two central activities:1. Creating access to outstanding music education to children who would not otherwise have it, through its Residency Programs in schools and community centers in Mattapan, Dorchester and Roslindale. 2. Creating access to high quality free public chamber music performances in diverse communities, including those who have little opportunity to experience live music.

Charting Impact

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?

What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?

What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?

How will they know if they are making progress?

What have they accomplished so far and what's next?

We hope to see a transformation in each child demonstrated by greater family involvement, a commitment to success that extends beyond learning an instrument, and a greater interest in developing musical skills and appreciation. Students will be motivated to work together, using communication skills to interact with peers, resolve conflicts, mentor younger students, and become a model for other students. We also hope to improve access to free, continuous music education, and help students connect to opportunities to continue their instruction after graduation from our Residencies. The ability to continue our programming will pave the way to long-term progress, measured by students’ commitment to leadership and mentoring opportunities, involvement in Chamber Kids and similar programs, and the commitment to applying for and attending college; these activities demonstrate the participation in a wider civic and cultural world that musiConnects aims to foster.
