Mission

Thrust Statement: Famous Players Orchestra is a “silent film" symphony orchestra and music preservation organization based in Los Angeles, dedicated to performing and recording the original, historic cinematic musical scores used by movie theater orchestras during the silent film era (1910-1929). Our mission is accomplished these specific ways: 1.) Producing quality sound recordings of historic scores relevant to silent era film music 2.) Live performances of silent era musical compositions in conjunction with screenings of historic films of the period. 3.) Literature and information available at our live programs or found on our website, www.fporchestra.org

CD Recording Project: "Music of the Silent Cinema - Vol.1"

PROPOSED PROJECT
This proposal is for a CD recording of approximately 80 minutes in length, which will offer an overview or retrospective survey of orchestral film music from the silent era. We hope to represent at least one musical work from each of the most notable composers of the genre. The composers represented will be: Gaston Borch, J.S. Zamecnik, M. L. Lake, Joseph Carl Breil, Irénée Bergé, Maurice Baron, Leo Kempinski, Otto Langey, S.M. Berg, Christopher O’Hare, Victor L. Schertzinger, Hugo Riesenfeld, J.E. Andino, Ernö Rapée, William Axt, Adolf Minot, Domenico Savino, Sol P. Levy, Herman Finck, Walter C. Simon, J. Bodewalt Lampe, Herbert Haines and Victor Herbert.
