What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

In 2009 we found that there was not a single service dog organization in the world with a mission focus on education. We began to research how we could raise the level of consciousness regarding service dog law, service dog etiquette and service dog puppy raising. We also were told a big dilemma was acquiring volunteers to foster puppies at 8 weeks old and raise them until they were approximately 18 months where they could be returned to their respective service dog organizations and go back for advanced training when the time came. In 2010 we began our education strategy by producing one of the first web series in the world and demonstrating the process of incubating a puppy for service by distributing webisodic content on the internet. We believed then and we know even better now that if there is more education and understanding about service dogs then the quality of life for service dog users and their amazing canines will go up.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

● Growing Up Guide Pup's mission is to implement service dog education services to help disabled people live more independent and fulfilling lives.

● Service dogs are a critical tool for improving the life of the person they assist. However there is a huge lack of understanding and support from the general public. Growing Up Guide Pup (GUGP) steps in to provide education entertainment to familiarize people with service dogs and advocate for dog users. Growing Up Guide Pup was founded in the San Francisco Bay Area and is the only organization that specializes in service dog education in the world. We do this by using new media and modern technology. By spotlighting service dogs, dog users, training organizations, and affiliating with puppy raising/training organizations, GUGP creates critical education tools for the community.

GUGP’s current strategies:

● TV Series for the web : GUGP’s currently has three seasons streaming on the internet. GUGP releases
videos on the internet where audiences can watch Amie and Matt’s current service puppy in training
learn, and develop with complete transparency. Amie and Matt are currently raising their 19th service dog
puppy. With no limits on length, topic, ideas, format, there is room for growth on the internet where true
innovation will occur. Amie and Matt use the series to defend the rights of the handicapped, as well as to
promote a philanthropic desire to give back to the community. Through the web series, the audience
tracks Amie and Matt’s puppy as he develops and the audience experiences the journey with them. This
series gives people an honest accounting of the amount of time, dedication and hard work it takes to
create and train a service dog. Most people have no idea of the amount a puppy raiser does. GUGP has
been recognized as best non-fiction series at LAWebFest for two years in a row.

● Transmedia distribution of trademarked and copyrighted GUGP books. videos games, blogs, films, and toys to
edutain the public.

● Service Dog Mixers: Create events that bring the service dog community together including puppy
raisers from all organizations along with their owner trainers. This program draws heavily on GUGP's
affiliations with Brigadoon Service Dogs, but seeks to grow and be a greater source of support for the service dog community as a whole. The mixers include film premiers, showcasing the Independent TV Series, service dog demonstration work, and
training games for service users and puppy raisers. The forum provide a safe space where where everyone can
be assured only legitimate service dog people can attend and a provide a safe space against fraudulent
service dog people. It is an opportunity for users, raisers, and the public to come together to learn more
about different disabilities and the types of different service dog tasks that are used to help them.

We have a team of skilled artists, service dog experts, and passionate volunteers who work with us. We have produced a award winning web series since 2010. We have already demonstrated our ability to push our mission with minimal compensation so we are very confident with more resources that our capabilities of making a even larger impact will grow exponentially with the support we require. We have more than one million unique views of our video content online. We have hundreds of blogs that have been enjoyed and shared tens of thousands of times from a myriad of authors including service dog users, service dog trainers, and puppy raiser volunteers.. We are sitting board members on other service dog organizations which helps with spreading culture, knowledge, networking and growing all of our efforts together for the future. We are working in affiliation with Brigadoon Service Dogs which is certified with Assistance Dogs International. We helped start a new organization called Mobility Service Dog West Coast Project in Pasadena. We also learn from prominent dog trainers like Kathy Sdao and other dog training companies. We have worked with Karen Pryer Dog Training Academy and Ken Ramirez Ranch in Washington State. We have been service dog philanthropists and a service dog cultural echo chambers for nearly ten years. We have been raising service dogs to help people with disabilities for seventeen years. We have also worked closely with Guide Dogs for the Blind and Guide Dogs of the Desert in our evolutionary journey since we started.

The next phase will be increased collaboration with Brigadoon Service Dogs who will be producing a feature film with us as we follow a entire litter of puppies on their journey to become service dogs to help Veterans and the various disabilities they suffer from.
