Alleviating Population Pressures at Angkor through Solar Power
Funds raised are used for our Solar Project at the school in Run TA-Ek Eco Village situated outside Siem Reap, Cambodia. The Eco Village is one of the first all solar homestay projects in Cambodia.
Run Ta-Ek Eco Village is a partnership between the APSARA National Authority (Cambodia's Authority for the Protection of the Site and Management of the Region of Angkor) and the Khmer people living around and inside Cambodia's Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The focus is on eco-tourism, creating jobs, education and a sustainable future for the villagers that live at Run Ta-Ek.
Currently, over 100 families have been given homes and lands by APSARA Authority. These families have children in need of education. A school was built within the 1,000 hectare community grounds to meet this important need, however it lacks certain necessities such as electrical power.
This campaign aims to raise the funding required for installation of solar panels, lighting, and fans. The goal is to make the school sustainable, comfortable and productive for the children's education, and to pave the way for future advancements like computers.
Cuba Entomology Research
XplorMor International is creating a photographic field survey of insects in three diverse regions of Cuba. The three field study locations: Guanahacabibes National Park and Biosphere Reserve, Cienaga de Zapata National Park and Biosphere Reserve, and Vinales National Park which includes Vinales Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. XMI organized, conducted and photographed the Cuba Entomology Research Expedition for members of the Entomology Department at the University of Georgia. The database is being created from our fieldwork findings, and will be shared with various institutions and educational resources.
World Heritage Conservation and Archival Documentation Expedtions
This project is focused on documenting UNESCO World Heritage Sites for long-term preservation and conservation efforts. Fieldwork will support photographic documentation and archival database records, including in cooperation with Our Place World Heritage (an official partner with UNESCO), various governments and local authorities, and proposed, ICOMOS, the International Council on Monuments and Sites. The work will also produce published materials that detail findings such as archaeological or cultural discoveries, conservation efforts, corrections to maps of remote areas, and other items of societal impact.
Entomological Photographic Documentation
Entomology is the study of Insects and their relationship with the world around them, including interactions with humans, the environment, and other organisms. Insects not only outnumber all other forms of Earth’s living creatures combined, but they carry out roles vital to life on our planet. Fieldwork, video and photography give broader insights into habitats, behavior, evolution, ecosystems and even climate change. XMI photographic work in natural habitats aims to highlight this dynamic and crucial world of Insects, and to promote its conservation.
World Heritage Youth Volunteers Program
WHV-Angkor offers an opportunity to raise awareness of participants, volunteers, park workers and local community members about various issues affecting Angkor Archaeological Park, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, located outside Siem Reap in Cambodia, Southeast Asia. Issues include conservation, preservation, sustainable development and tourism, and protecting continued discoveries. The program also focuses on establishing relations and partnerships between the peoples involved to attain sustainable results, including the creation of an eco-community to alleviate population pressures at Angkor. XplorMor International is working to create a photographic journal of events, meetings, instructional classes and on-site conservation efforts.
