Tutoring for Veterans
Veterans transitioning to civilan life and either beginning or returning to college often express anxiety about being prepared for academic life. Having been out of school for several years these veterans sometimes need to brush up on academic skills. The Friends of Veterans New York, in addition to awarding cash awards, would like to offer free tutoring services to veterans attending Queensborough Community College.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We are seeking to improve the educational accomplishments of veterans. We seek to achieve this by programs that improve the Grade Point Average (GPA) of the veterans we reach.

Our strategy is to use donor funds to support, reward and encourage veterans that have successfully transitioned into civilian life, and who have enrolled in community college, and to provide resources to them to mentor and act as tutor to other veterans that are re-entering school.

We have partnered with our local community college to achieve the outreach to enrolled veterans and thereby use our donations to target eligible veterans and provide them with awards for their academic achievements attained at the community college and also to then pay them to provide quality tutoring to other enrolled veterans.

Thanks to our good working relationship with Queensborough Community College, in the year 2018 we have been able to deliver donor support to the College and thereby funding the presentment of actual Cash Awards to enrolled student veterans who have demonstrate actual academic achievement to the College, by their Grade Point Average (GPA). Our accomplishments have been limited only by our lack of funding.
