Mission

Fairbanks Open Radio exists to bring independent, noncommercial, listener-supported radio to Interior Alaska. Our strategy is to educate, entertain, and mobilize our community through operation of a low-power FM radio station. We shall broadcast traditionally underrepresented perspectives that reflect the principles under which we organize: - For an intersectional understanding of all manners of oppression - For the centering of unjustly marginalized people and ideas - For self-determination and nonhierarchical configuration - For direct action and diverse tactics of resistance - For egalitarian distribution of wealth and power - For local economy and fair, transparent trade - For social and environmental justice - For worker solidarity and mutual aid - For artistic expression.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

KWRK-LP 90.9 FM

KWRK-LP 90.9 FM is the only fully independent, 100% listener-sponsored radio station in Alaska. The workers behind this program fancy an open forum for insightful discussion of subjects relevant to our community - a source that introduces new ideas, inspires deliberation and reconsideration of old ideas, and stimulates us to act. We want to build a mediaorganization that works for working class folx like us to accomplish collectively what we cannot individually, given our inherent money and time constraints, to maintain or replace the flailing fourth estate. We're counting on the no-frills, low-stress LPFM approach to let us carry the torch.
