Bridging the Gap
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Entrenched social inequities and the systems in place to maintain them often leave families disconnected and disenfranchised. Families are dealing with unaddressed mental and emotional health concerns, lack of functional academic and financial literacies, stigma, and little to no personal support. Families 4 His Glory, Inc. seeks opportunities to show families that they and their members deserve a place at the table and we help build table extensions that allow them participate on equal standing.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Provision Powers Reading
Operated through our education division, Provision Academy, Provision Powers Reading uses the EasyRead program to help struggling readers in grades 3-12 become proficient readers. Students are served in 2 stages.
Stage 1 is our summer reading program which includes the EasyRead online program, supplemental literacy activities, socio-emotional skill building, cultural affirmation, and STEAM activities.
Stage 2 is our year round program, partnering with community organizations and schools to bring the EasyRead program on-site. Our goal is to serve 50 students by the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
Access Initiatives
Access Initiatives are activities that are specifically aimed at reducing social inequities, empowering disenfranchised populations, and promoting respect for all. Current activities include a discount card for local black-owned businesses, a health and wellness event, education consultations, and the supplemental activities for the Provision Powers Reading summer program.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Families 4 His Glory, Inc. wants to assist students with receive a quality education regardless of ability or income status. We strive to reduce economic disparities and promote financial literacy and community investment. We believe that knowledge is power and look for avenues to provide well-researched, balanced information that could positively impact families.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Currently, our primary focus is reaching older students who continue to struggle with reading, resulting in many missed opportunities and possibly in negative outcomes such as unemployment, substance abuse, poverty, and criminality. To achieve this goal, we are partnering with families, community organizations like The Boys and Girls Club, local schools and libraries, to provide effective and affordable reading remediation.
We are also seeking to support local businesses, especially black owned businesses, as they are often starting with an economic handicap. One avenue for doing this is a local discount card exclusively featuring black-owned businesses. We have a second discount card with local businesses that meet a family's need for entertainment, dining, and professional services. We use local businesses as vendors at our events and refer families to local providers when recommendations are requested.
We serve exceptional learners, more commonly called students with special needs, through tutoring, reading intervention, education consultations, and homeschool evaluations.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our founder and executive director has over 15 years of experience working with youth and families in the Hampton Roads area in the field of mental health and special education. Our organization collaborates with organizations who have similar goals and serve local families. Our board, executive director, volunteers, donors, and supporters work together on each project.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
In the past 3 years we've assisted 5 families with independent living skills including finance management, conflict resolution, and interpersonal communication. We've helped 9 students who are exceptional learners with tutoring and homeschool evaluations. We've provided direct financial support to 3 families. We have also created 3 opportunities for families to learn more about homeschooling and other educational alternatives.
