What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

It is estimated that 1.5 billion people worldwide suffer from chronic pain and about 50 million in the United States. Although chronic pain is a common experience, many pain sufferers feel isolated and misunderstood by their doctors, co-workers, family and friends. Many patients also go untreated or under-treated by the healthcare system.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We seek to better inform patients, providers, caretakers, policymakers and the public about the pain experience, options in pain management, new treatments, and help remove the stigma often associated with having chronic pain.

Through our social media and guest columns, we also provide a public forum for patients and providers to freely express themselves and share their experiences.

Our reporters and columnists cover not only the latest research, regulations and treatments for chronic pain, but the many social and financial challenges faced by pain sufferers -- and the remarkable courage they display while coping with what is often a lifetime illness.

In 2018, PNN stories were read by nearly 1.7 million people in 49 countries. Over 17,000 people subscribe to our newsletter.

We also conduct surveys from time to time to learn about the effectiveness of public policies and pain management therapies.

In 2019, we're currently on track to reach over 2 million readers around the world. We've become the "go-to" resource and publication of record in the pain community.

Our most recent survey on the CDC opioid guideline reached over 6,000 patients and practitioners. To our knowledge, it is the largest and most comprehensive survey to focus on the intended and unintended consequences of the guideline and its impact on pain care. The CDC itself has not made a similar effort of any size.
