Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Summer Camp
Children experience hisory with our varied hands-on programs and they learn by doing. They experience games, crafts, cooking, gardening, costumed interpreters that share specialties like the herbalist, or the trappers. Experiences like nature exploration along the river, journaling, and studying local history make these camps well-rounded. They learn values like teamwork, perseverance, honoring elders, and respect for the land. Our Native American (Indigenous) teaching in local libraries brings responsive cultural programming to rural areas.
History Homeschool
Each month our homeschool groups experience a three hour class including crafts, activities, games, time in nature, and circle time which includes discussion, presentation, and learning. The classes include learning about the Indigenous peoples of the area, including cultural awareness and respect. They run from September to May and include monthly homework. Children learn about Oregon history in a fun and engaging way, with a small class size and plenty of personal attention. With our online program September - May kids learn about a variety of subjects with videos and activities. Themes include Justice & Inclusion, Storytelling, Eco-friendly Living, Local Native American stories and crafts, and more.
Travel in Time Field Trips
Teachers and their classes of children travel back in time with us in historic house, lead by three interpreters who teach about the pioneer, trapper, and Kalapuya Indigenous people. The children learn respect for other cultures and the context in which white settlement happened in Oregon. They make a craft to take home, and touch and learn about items related to each historical group, including learning historic names and uses for tools and other objects.
