Mission

We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) Animal Rescue and no-kill shelter located in Charlotte N.C. Our passion is rescuing animals in distress. We know realistically and sadly we can't save them all, but we can save one Paw at a time. Although we consider each case on its own merits, we most often rescue dogs out of high kill shelters that are overlooked by other rescues because they are sick or injured. We make every effort to ensure that all animals that we rescue are seen by our veterinarians within 48 hours of coming into our custody. Once deemed ready for adoption, applications from forever families are accepted. If we determine that a family is a good fit, the family's references are checked and a home visit is completed to ensure a safe, compatible environment.

Animal Rescue & No-Kill Shelter

We know that for every story out there of animal abuse, neglect and abandonment there is also a story of loyalty, steadfastness and love. The media and sadly, most of us, focus on the negative stories. The stories that tell how bad a person is and how much they have hurt an animal. We are here to take care of those animals when that happens and this sanctuary is for that. However, we want our focus to be more positive, move life affirming, move giving and more philanthropic. We want to live the essence of Philanthropy (from wikipedia.org) meaning "love of humanity" in the sense of caring, nourishing, developing and enhancing "what it is to be human" on both the benefactors' (by identifying and exercising their values in giving and volunteering) and beneficiaries' (by benefiting) parts.

We want what we do to benefit animals and humans. We want to make a lasting and impactful change in our community and beyond. We want to leave this world one day knowing that we made a difference and that our work will be carried on in what we leave behind. Anyone can save animals and blame humans for everything done to the animals. We want to find a way to save animals while helping the humans that truly care about the animals.

While there are animals that are surrendered or dumped or abused that end up at shelters, there are also animals that a loving family sees no alternative and gives their animal to someone or to the shelter itself thinking that the animal will be ok. Perhaps they are in denial or ignorance of what will really happen to the animal. Perhaps they have been lied to. Perhaps whoever they gave the animal to for caretaking had good intentions but they fell through. We don't always know what brings an animal to a shelter. We often assume the worst. However there are times, when a family in desperate times to save themselves or their children might give up their animal. There are also times when a family might risk themselves or their children to avoid giving up their animal. We want to be there for all of these people. We want to be there to provide a safe haven for victims of abuse, victims of economic downfall, victims of a housing crisis that see no alternative but to give up their animal to a high kill shelter. The average public does not have the knowledge we have in finding resources and alternatives for their animals. And when the alternatives and other resources aren't there, we want to take those animals in for them. When that family tells us they want to come back for their loving pet, we want to be able to keep that pet for them until they are back on their feet. We want to protect the animals and the humans that are in these dire straits. We will use our more than 30 years of animal rescue knowledge to find alternatives and avoid euthanasia for these beloved family pets.
