Mission

The Muslim American Leadership Alliance (MALA) is a 501c3 civil rights organization committed to promoting individual freedom and celebrating Muslim-American heritage. An alliance dedicated to leadership through integrity, MALA provides a platform for Muslim-Americans to share their stories; nurtures emerging community leaders; and unites Americans of all backgrounds to advance constructive solutions to extremism and human rights abuses. We embrace free expression, gender equality, and pluralism as cherished universal ideals.

MALA's serves as organization that plays the role as a catalyst for positive change. We do this by fostering inclusivity, cherishing freedom, and uniting through diversity. An alliance dedicated to leadership through integrity, our platform for story-telling has significantly contributed to benefit American society by celebrating, challenging, and re-defining a community identity. By sharing a broad range of diverse narratives and experiences, MALA's grassroots efforts have helped Muslim-Americans be proud of their identity whilst strengthening social cohesion in America.

MALA's strategic growth is credited to its diverse programming, innovative leadership, and cultivated support of its constituencies. People across lines of various demographics have come together for constructive discussions relevant to our broad community.

We empower people to reshape the conversation and take informed action on the issues that affect them most. By increasing the quality and breadth of civic dialogue about the role of Americans of Muslim heritage, we have created a culture of respect, tolerance, and action through discourse.

IMPACT

MALA's programs aim to:

Inspire Muslim-Americans to share their unique stories and shape their futures;
Elevate public dialogue on Muslim-American identity in the 21st Century;
Unite all Americans in a common struggle for freedom and human rights;
Partner with civic leaders to strengthen community and counter extremism;
Mentor and empower emerging young leaders.

MALA's alliance of community leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators commit their resources and enthusiasm towards supporting projects that implement education and awareness; reducing discrimination; encouraging skill sharing; and building global connectivity.

Our programs and partners have elevated the public dialogue on Muslim-American identity in the 21st Century. We have fostered dialogue nationwide across all sectors to examine issues important to our communities.

Using the humanities as tools to stimulate discussion, we create celebrate individual experiences through programming and events to engage a diverse public on ideas and issues that matter.

MALA has demonstrated the following capabilities through partnerships and programs:

MALA's programs have been held at the United Nations' General Assembly; Arab American National Museum; Flint Institute of Arts; Toledo Fine Arts Museum; United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women; World Affairs Council; and more. As Americans of Muslim heritage, we value choice and freedom as a cornerstone for a better world, and encourage active discourse to address some of the most challenging issues that are a part of our current world affairs.

MALA strives to forge an inspiring vision for the next generation of American Muslims. We aim to harness the leadership potential of the next generation who want to shape their destiny through shared values.
