Programs + Results

What we aim to solve

In the United States, today one third of all children suffer from obesity. All efforts to date have failed to slow down the increase of obesity in our children population. This generation is predicted to have a lower life expectancy than their parents. According to the 2013 Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) report, disproportionately more Latino and African American residents are poor, live in racially segregated neighborhoods, and suffer from the highest rates of obesity.

Considering that childhood obesity situation, it is essential to integrate more preventative measures in sectors that best serve children and their families. The ultimate goal of all of EChO’s efforts is to provide communities with the resources to make more health-conscious lifestyle choices. Our current projects at EChO Foundation focus on raising public awareness of the negative health impact of hidden sugar in packaged food and beverage products. Success for EChO is beyond the performance of "A Sweet Fairy Tale". EChO’s goal of curbing childhood obesity begins with changing the mindset of what a nutrition-balanced plate is and how one can all start eating healthier even on a limited budget while spending no more than on fast foods and processed foods.

Organizational Demographics

In order to support nonprofits and gain valuable insight for the sector, GuideStar worked with D5—a five-year initiative to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in philanthropy—in creating a questionnaire. This section is a voluntary questionnaire that empowers organizations to share information on the demographics of who works in and leads organizations. To protect the identity of individuals, we do not display sexual orientation or disability information for organizations with fewer than 15 staff. Any values displayed in this section are percentages of the total number of individuals in each category (e.g. 20% of all Board members for X organization are female).
