What we aim to solve
The Foundation for Community Driven Innovation (FCDI) provides resources and services for addressing shortfalls and gaps in workforce skills development and STEM education through real world project based learning opportunities and apprenticeship training.

ROBOTICON Tampa Bay
ROBOTICON is an annual K-12 Youth STEM showcase providing a high-quality, post-season competitive experience for youth robotics and drone teams, with opportunities for pre-season skill building, networking, and college and career readiness opportunities. STEAM Education
Our STEAM Education program provides inclusive, accessible, non-discriminatory access to high a quality STEM education experiential learning opportunities for youth. This program serves youth in-house at AMRoC Fab Lab, through six community-based competitive STEM programs prioritizing youth in the University Area, as well as teams throughout Tampa Bay in need of fiscal sponsorship.
AMRoC Fab Lab
The Tampa Bay Advanced Manufacturing & Robotics Center (AMRoC) Fab Lab is an 8000 sq. ft. public Fab Lab located in an urban mall and dedicated to building community capacity, empowering individuals through creative self-expression and bridging the manufacturing and industry talent gap through robust project-based engineering education, training, entrepreneurship support and advanced manufacturing skills and certifications. Gulf Coast MakerCon
Gulf Coast MakerCon is an annual community festival celebrating the DIY (Do It Yourself) Inventive Spirit. This event serves to showcase the creativity, inventiveness, resiliency and self-reliance of people of ages in and around the Tampa Bay and Florida West Coast. Equity in Entrepreneurship
The mission of FCDI'sEquity in Entrepreneurship (Equinent) program is to help bridge the race and gender equity gap in early-stage entrepreneurship to help bridge the race and gender equity gap in early stage entrepreneurship to help create more inclusive pathways to the Tampa Bay startup ecosystem. Hosted at AMRoC Fab Lab at University Mall, Equinent participants have access to a dedicated community of mentors with expertise across a wide range of business fields, as well as rapid prototyping and fabrication resources and tools at AMRoC. Nearly 30 businesses have been launched through the program since 2020, with over 80% of the businesses Black and Brown-owned and over 50% women-owned. What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
FCDI enhances academic achievement, boosts economic development and inspires innovation through the development of programs and events that challenge participants and constituents to develop and hone workforce skills in traditional craft, manufacturing, science, engineering, and technology.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
FCDI provides a charitable avenue of support in accordance with the meaning and intent of section 501(c)(3) for programs that inspire innovation, academic excellence in schools, and economic development in our communities. Donations and contributions are allocated directly to programs through direct payment of program expenses, or through direct award contributions to student teams associated with our Youth STEAM Team Funding program. The AMRoC Fab Lab and the ROBOTICON programs of FCDI helps educate and empower individuals through meaningful project-based learning, respectful coopertition, and workforce readiness program development.Our Equity in Entrepreneurship program aims to close the race and gender equity gap in early stage entrepreneurship support.
By working collaboratively with local governments, other community agencies and organizations, and community partners, FCDI leverages the expertise, passion and compassion of community leaders and the professional community to mentor and teach others, building community as well as human capital.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
FCDI board members bring over 30 years of combined experience in nonprofit management and support to our programs with a well established history of transparency, open and clear communications, effective collaboration and strong community organizing. Board members and advisors have a visible and well documented legacy of achievement in the education, business, scientific and technical communities that inspires support an interest in areas ranging from engineering and workforce readiness to exciting competitive robotics event production.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Thanks to the collaborative support of program partners and donors, FCDI has established the AMRoC Fab Lab at the University Square Mall in Tampa FL, serving youth and adults in the underprivileged community as well as students of the nearby University of South Florida. The AMRoC Fab Lab will provide K-12 STEM education plus pre-apprenticeship certifications, expanding workforce skills development to more people.
ROBOTICON Tampa Bay has demonstrated significant growth over the last three years, with a robust social network and increasing community partner support in both academic and corporate communities.
